Hats Needed at School
The Department of Education SunSmart policy states that students must wear protective clothing, e.g. a hat, once UV levels reach 3 or above. UV levels are currently at 3, so our students will need to be wearing their school hat when outside at school. Please ensure your child's hat is named.
Sustainable Schools Festival
Last Thursday, 20 Year 6 students attended the Port Phillip Ecocentre Centre’s 19th Sustainable Schools Festival with Ms McManus at the St Kilda Town Hall. Our students ran a “Tees to Totes” upcycling workshop where they taught students from other primary and secondary schools to convert an old t-shirt to a shopping bag. Thanks to Miss Lauren Cooper who helped prepare them for running the workshop.
They also participated in a variety of wonderful workshops run by other schools and environmental organisations, and received an “Upcycling Innovation Award”.
MathsMinds Competition
The MathsMinds competition is a unique event designed to provide girls with an engaging platform to immerse themselves in higher-level activities while collaborating with like-minded peers. Through a series of fun, interactive and intellectually stimulating activities, designed to push the boundaries of the girls’ mathematical knowledge and skills, MathsMinds aims to challenge the participants to think creatively, analyse problems critically and devise innovative solutions.
It was held at Mentone Girls' Grammar, and Beaumaris Primary school sent along four teams of four girls to compete in this event. We had a team from Year 4 - Chloe, Indi, Chilli, Willow who attended on Wednesday and excitingly came in first place.
Saya, Scarlett, Audrey and Saskia from Year 5 enjoyed the relay race event where you had to solve a problem, run around the room and hand the answer to a helper to see if you got it correct in order to get a point. They had great fun on the day.
Eight of our Year 6 students participated in MathsMinds - Jade, Malia, Annabel, Mia, Teresa, Bonnie, Evelyn and Ava. They played one-on-one games against other teams, which tested their knowledge of factors, multiples, and thinking one step ahead. They also completed mental maths and group activities that involved teamwork and quick thinking. They shared that they had so much fun and stretched their brains to the fullest.
Congratulations to these students and we hope they enjoyed the experience.
