Week 6, Term 3
🌱LITERACY
In literacy this week, students will be reading the text 'The Garden at the End of the World', by Briony Stewart and Cassy Polimeni. The story explores the seed vault in Svalbard and its contribution to ensuring food for the future. Cassy Polimeni will be visiting the school on Wednesday and sharing about the writing process of a published author. Students will also read an informative text about the topic and compare what they find.
After identifying the types of figurative language used in Cassy's story, students will be implementing her writing style in their own writing. Additionally, they will be revising their knowledge of persuasive writing techniques to share their opinion about the seed vault and its purpose.
Literature circles will begin later this week, with students working in a group to discuss their text with the roles that were introduced previously. These roles include:
The table below outlines the Language Conventions we will be looking at during our Literacy sessions.
What you can do at home
Help your child to set aside time to read - preferably every night. This will help them build important learning habits. Your child now has access to Reading Eggspress, to help with adding variety to their range of text choices.
🌱MATHS
Students will be building on their understanding of number patterns and identifying algebraic rules that express these patterns and this will involve solving problems involving BODMAS, missing values and balanced equations.
What you can do at home
Revising these ideas by completing the Mathletics homework would be the best help this week.
