The Math's Space

Week 11, Term 1

It has been an extremely busy term at St Mary of the Angels in the Math's space with all classes using the MaST Units. There have been opportunities for educators to attend Learning Walk and Talks at other schools within the Diocese, the creation of our Maths resource room and Essential Maths Boxes created with new resources for each classroom!

Early Stage 1 young people have enjoyed diving into our new unit of 'Time'. We have discussed the meanings of 'daytime' and 'night-time', and also the difference between 'morning' and 'afternoon'. Our young people have enjoyed talking about and drawing the many activities that we do in these different times of the day. This week we look forward to comparing the duration of two events and sequencing events in the correct order.

Stage 1 has been completing some amazing work with whole numbers.

Stage 2 has been learning all about subtraction and inverse operations. They have been exploring a range of strategies that can support them in solving subtraction equations and creating the link to addition.

Stage 3 has been extending their learning of fractions. They have been looking at equivalent fractions and exploring how fractions can be used in equations. This has been a concept that has challenged our mathematical thinking but all students are giving it their best and have displayed amazing work ethics and persistence.
