Grade 5/6 Lightning Premiership

About the Lightning Prem

Last Thursday, all the year 5’s and 6’s went to go play Summer sports against other local schools in our Lightning Premiership. The sports that students got to choose to represent Mano in were Basketball, Cricket, Softball and Volleyball.

Cricket

At cricket, we played lots of games against other schools. In the Boys ‘B’ team we won 2 games and lost 2 games, everyone in our team was supportive and did their best. It was fun and we hit some big sixes, it was a good way to learn how to play cricket. The girls and boys ‘A’ teams both made the Grand Final’s but went down swinging in both matches.

Softball

Last Thursday, I competed against other schools in Softball at Stead Park in Corio. The Softball ‘A’ team, won all 3 of our games, including the Grand Final against Chilwell. We hit about 16 home runs all up. Winning the Grand Final means we get to go through to the next round later in the year.

Basketball

In the basketball, the boys ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams were winning all their matches all day. Some games we even won by up to 30 points! We shot lots of baskets and had lots of fun. The boys ‘A’ team made it all the way to the grand final and the scores were tied with 3 seconds to go! Unfortunately for Mano, Chilwell hit a shot on the buzzer and won a close game. The girls team tried all day and a highlight was watching Frankie block one of the tallest players on the other teams.

Volleyball

Mano had many teams playing on the day, we played on sand so technically it was Beach Volleyball. Some teams played ‘Volley Stars’. The girls Volleyball team won all their games! It was so much fun playing with all my friends. We are now into the next round. I can’t wait to play again next term!
