Harmony Day

On Thursday 21st March we celebrated Harmony Day. It was wonderful to see so many children come dressed in colours or costumes representing their culture and heritage. Children enjoyed a special Harmony Day lunch of pizza, juice and ice-cream / icy pole. Thank you to Brooke Eddington, Asha Onans, Grace Salice, Jack Yau, Lyndsay Meager- Sann and Andrea Rowe for volunteering to help out with the lunches and to Sophia's Restaurant in Burwood East for supplying the delicious pizzas!

Harmony Day Student Reflection:

Harmony Day is a day to remember that the people are all equal in their different races, cultures and religions. Our day started off with people explaining their different cultures. We also brainstormed what harmony day is all about. These were the common words that came up HOPE, PEACE, INCLUSION, DIVERSITY FREEDOM, AND FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Harmony day was a fun day.

Highbury District Summer Sports Gala Day

Last Friday 15th March, Holy Saviour hosted the first-ever Highbury District Summer Sports Gala Day for our Grade 4-6 students. This exciting event brought together schools from our district: St. Christopher’s, St. Scholastica, Weeden Heights, Parkhill Primary, and St. Luke’s. It was a day filled with fun and sportsmanship as students participated in tennis hot shots, kickball, tee ball, and kanga cricket. Each team played five games, with the top performers moving on to the division finals with the exception of kickball. The atmosphere was buzzing with energy as students showcased their skills and cheered on their classmates. Well done to all children who participated in the day and a special thank you to Mrs Laura Abed who coordinated the event.

Year 4-6 Camp Reflections

Lana:  On the 6th-8th of March, the grade 4/5/6’s went to camp at Stringybark Lodge. Once we arrived we had lunch and then went straight to activities. The first one I did was hungry hippos. It was really fun. The next day we went for a walk really early in the morning when we were done we had breakfast and then went to activities. My favourite activity was archery because I learnt something new and it was really fun. At the end of the night we did trivia. My group got 4th place, but either way we still had lots of fun. The last day we went for a walk again. We had breakfast and then went straight to activities. We did low ropes and Initiatives course. When we finished we had lunch and then went on the bus and arrived at school.

Julia: On the 6th of March the 4, 5 and 6 students went to Stringybark lodge for two nights with the St Timothy’s students. When we woke up the next day we did four laps of the enormous grassy area with a muddy dam in it. My first activity for the day was bush cooking. My damper took ages to cook. My favourite activity that day was raft building. We split into two teams and built rafts then had a relay race. At the end of the day we had a trivia night. The next day everyone packed up and the messiest room had to do lunch duty, my room was me, Zoe, Alyssa, Rachael, Zara and Lana. Everyone was sad to go home but also really tired.

Daniel: On Wednesday the 6th of March the grade 4,5 and 6 students went to StringyBark Lodge camp. The grade 5 students from St.Timothys also came. The bus ride up, everyone was very excited. Once we had arrived, we got a tour around the camp by the owner Anthony. We then played a few ice breaker games to get to know each other. After lunch we found out our activity groups and then went to our first rotation of activities. I was a taco and our first activity was an Indigenous session. Shortly after dinner we went for a night walk. On the night walk we were shown an upcoming activity called the initiatives trail. We then went off to bed. The next morning, we got ready for our big day of rotations. My activities were flying fox, bush cooking, bridge/raft building and archery. My favourite activity was bush cooking. That night, for dinner, we had meatballs, mash potatoes and salad. After dinner we had a trivia night. The following morning we got ready for our next rotation. Our activities were initiatives trail and hungry hippos. For the initiative trail we had to work as a group to complete challenges. After that, we started to pack our bags and clean our room. For lunch we had leftovers put into a wrap. We then said our thank you’s and goodbye’s and headed back to school.

Thomas T: On the 6th of March I went to camp with all my class, 5/6KC and the grade 5's from St Tim's. Once we arrived at camp, we had a tour and then put all our stuff away. We played a game of octopus as an icebreaker game. It was the hardest game of octopus I have ever played because it was so hot in the sun. Then we did 2 activities in the afternoon. I did the Indigenous session and hungry hippos. At night we went for a bushwalk. On the second day I did bush cooking, the zipline, raft building and archery. My favourite was archery because it was fun and I also popped a balloon. That night we had trivia. On the last day, we did two more activities and I did the low ropes and the initiatives course. Then it was time for lunch, which was wraps with meatballs and it was really good. Then it was time to go home, I sat with Jai on the bus and played word games and cards. I very much enjoyed going to camp.

Tom G:  It was about eight in the afternoon and Mr Evans began to lead us along a treacherous path which wound through the bush. Everyone trotted along in a single file line, bumping and knocking into everyone else. The sticks and branches along the floor scraped along my legs leaving various cuts and bruises.

At about halfway through, I stopped in my tracks. I could hear a tawny frogmouth not too far to my left. When we made it back to the cabins I was relieved to finally be able to go to bed and regain my energy for the activities set for us tomorrow.
