Fantastic 3/4

Term 1 Week 8 2024

What have we been up to?

In literacy, our students have continued to look at creating a narrative around the theme of a boat adventure. Our year 3’s completed their NAPLAN last week, so a huge congratulations to them! We were so impressed with how they all partook so calmly and confidently in this test test, students were tested on their grammar, reading and writing skills. As a class we continue to read Nim’s Island for Book club, students have been thoroughly been enjoying the book. This adventure book inspires children to show great courage. It also highlights the importance of resilience and determination. We have continued our new spelling approach as a cohort called Morpheme Magic. These lessons make a powerful contribution to word reading and are built to create morphological awareness and provide engaging activities for students.

In Maths, last week students in year 3 completed their NAPLAN on mathematics once again huge congratulations to those who partook in it. Students have begun the topic of time over these last two weeks of term, focusing on telling time to the minute, the relationshuos between units of time and convection through untis of time using AM and PM.

In inquiry, students have continued looking at the first fleet. During this unit students have been learning about Australia's first settlers, how they arrived here and the history of Australia. This week students were introduced to the indigenous perspective of the colinsation on Australia and how they were effected by it.

In science, we have continued to look at chemical sciences, they  have been exploring man-made vs natural materials. Students have began creating posters about how our ecological footprint has an impact on the world.
