Are you looking for an all-expenses-paid holiday? We have just the thing for you: a three-day, two-night escape to fabulous Phillip Island from Wednesday, 16th October, to Friday, 18th October 2024. You read that correctly—all expenses paid! This includes two nights of accommodation, transport to and from Phillip Island, three full meals each day (excluding day one) with snacks in between, and lots of activities. Some of the amazing activities on offer are the giant swing, flying fox, and archery (take the time to practice for the LA Olympics).
There are only four spots available, so please fill out the form your child was given last or print the attached document and return it to school with your child.

Reading
Our focus moves from the text as a whole to the nuance of language and the use of such things as emotive language to engage the reader. If you would like to have a read of the text the students are working with please click on the link below.

Writing- Sentence-level
We will learn how to write a non-fiction conclusion paragraph. The students will use their knowledge of general, specific and thesis statements to construct this paragraph.
Writing- Text-level
Continue to write a persuasive introduction to one of their issues. Students will then move into building the body of the persuasive paragraphs using the structure of TEEL.
Maths
Over the coming weeks our students will be building their knowledge of thinking in 10's in relation to multiplication. Through this they will learn a variety of different written and mental strategies to solve a range of problems. It is important for students to develop upon the strategies they already know to find the most efficient strategy that works for them. We will also be placing a strong focus on justifying our solutions through verbal communication and using related operations to ensure our solutions are correct in more than one way.
Problem Solving
Our problem-solving lessons will have a focus on statistics this fortnight. We are delving into Olympic data where students are required to identify a variety of data sets and explain what they think they represent. They will be further encouraged to represent the data in a way that is meaningful to them.
Wellbeing
Our Wellbeing program continues to incorporate the work completed from our Berry Street program to support students’ self-regulation, relationships and wellbeing at school. This in conjunction with the School Wide Positive Behaviours has been an important focus. Over the next fortnight, the four R’s that being our ‘resilience, rights, and respectful relationships’ program, will continue our work on gender identities, gender norms and positive gender relations. The students recently completed a fun and engaging human bingo game that allowed students to learn a little more about each other in terms of likes, dislikes, experiences, strengths and backgrounds. It was great to see students getting to know other students beyond their normal friendship group. Well done Grade 4’s!
Inquiry
The Grade 4 students have made an excellent start on our new Inquiry topic ‘Types of Forces’. The students completed a pre-test on the different types of forces that they may encounter in their everyday lives, as well as a ‘Types of Forces’ glossary crossword that they completed in pairs which provided great exposure to the various types of vocabulary words associated with this unit of work. Over the next fortnight students will be experimenting with magnetic force as they design a maze that a paper clip can move through, as well as conducting various experiments in small groups that also looks at wind power and friction. May the ‘force’ be with you Grade 4’s!
Celebration of Learning
Kitchen Garden
The smell of freshly baked savory scones filled the air where the only sound you could hear were the whispers of Grade 4 student's, surprised they had created a meal so delicious. The creamiest pumpkin soup and scrumptious lemon drizzle cakes filled our tummies with many requests for more servings. Our hearts were warmed by the consistent flow of compliments heard around the tables. Every session of Kitchen Garden is amazing, but this one felt extra special. A big thank you to our helpers each week.
"This has been the best recipe we have cooked this year"- Grade 4.
Our Island Home
The students were so excited to share their island with each other. The level of engagement and active listening was music to our ears.
