Last week kicked off with a fun review of the running technique - something that was a main focus for Semester 1 and we will continue to revisit this semester. We also reviewed some other skills learnt in Semester 1 including kick and underarm, throw while exposing students to some different and fun PE equipment.
This term we’ll be continuing to learn different Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS). By mastering these FMS children develop coordination, balance, agility, and strength. These skills not only enhance their performance in various sports and activities, but also boost their confidence and enjoyment of physical education. Our next FMS will be Vertical Jump.
We're starting off the term with the vertical jump - watch out, future high flyers! Our focus will be on getting those jumps high and nailing those landings. The aim is for students to land in a balanced ‘motorbike landing’ with their knees bent and their arms out. This helps students to stick their landings without needing to take a step in any direction. This term we also look forward to learning the forehand strike and continuing to work cooperatively through games.
This week in Physical Education, we've been focusing on brushing up on the fundamental motor skill ‘run’ and reinforcing our school values: Zest, Kindness, Respect, and Learning Together. Next up, we'll be honing in on the vertical jump, with a focus on:
Keep up the great work Year 2’s!
This term in PE, we’re excited to learn about hockey! We'll focus on two key skills: holding the hockey stick and dribbling. First, we'll learn to grip the stick correctly, with our left hand near the top and our right hand lower down. This gives us control and balance. Next, we have been working on dribbling the ball, using gentle taps to keep it close while moving around. These skills are so important for playing hockey and will help us have fun and play safely. Get ready to have a fantastic time on the field!
At the start of this term, we're focusing on enhancing our dribbling skills in PE. Our main goal is to maintain control of the ball while moving. We’ll practise keeping the ball close to our stick with light, controlled taps. Remember to keep your head up and look where you’re going to avoid collisions and stay on course. Good balance and coordination are key to effective dribbling These skills will not only help you in hockey but are great for other sports too. Get ready to dribble like a pro and have lots of fun!
This term in PE, we’re diving into hockey with a focus on three essential skills: dribbling with control, effective passing, and game sense. First, we’ll refine our dribbling technique. Practice keeping the ball close to your stick with gentle taps and maintaining control while moving. This skill helps you navigate the field with precision. Next, we'll work on passing. Learn to make accurate passes by using the correct part of your stick and timing your passes well. Communicating with teammates is also key! Finally, we’ll develop our hockey game sense. Understand where to position yourself, anticipate your teammates' moves, and read the game’s flow. These skills will enhance your overall hockey performance and make the game more enjoyable. Let’s have an exciting and skilful term ahead!
