Year 6
Ms Riolo, Ms Miller & Ms Jan
We are so excited to be back for an exciting term. We can’t believe we only have two more terms left before we graduate!
In Knowledge, we are learning all about the Olympics! We can’t wait for the games to begin in Paris on the 26th of July. So far in our Olympics unit we learnt about the history of the games and the values true olympians show.
In Writing, we have been learning about the persuasive devices used to help persuade our readers when writing a persuasive text. So far we have looked at rhetorical questions, hyperboles, emotive language and modality words.
In Mathematics, we've been focusing on strengthening our skills in several key areas. Each day, we dedicate time to mental maths exercises to solidify what we've already learned and ensure a strong foundation in mathematics. Additionally, we've been regularly reviewing our lessons to deepen our understanding and reinforce important concepts.
A major focus has been on problem-solving skills. We've been tackling challenging problems and learning how to explain our reasoning and solutions clearly. This not only enhances our maths abilities, but also encourages critical thinking and effective communication of our ideas. We're excited to continue exploring new mathematical concepts and further developing our skills throughout the term.
In our recent SEL lessons, we have been focusing on an important aspect of your child's development: understanding and managing their emotions. We have been learning to recognise both positive and negative emotions, and helping students identify effective strategies to shift from negative to positive feelings. Additionally, we've explored the fascinating science behind emotions and their chemical impact on our bodies. These lessons aim to empower our students with the tools they need to navigate their emotional experiences with confidence and resilience.
This term during our AUSLAN lessons, students have been engaging in valuable revision of what they learned last semester. They've had the opportunity to practise their skills through activities such as watching and signing along with an AUSLAN story, signing along with an AUSLAN poem, and playing an AUSLAN game without using their voices. These activities not only reinforce their vocabulary and signing abilities but also foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of AUSLAN as a language. We are thrilled to see our students actively participating and growing in their AUSLAN proficiency.
