Welcome back to Term 3!
We are very excited to be back in the classroom and are ready for another wonderful term of learning. We would like to congratulate Ms Tarlia Harjnal, now Tarlia Harris on her recent wedding. We are excited to welcome her back to school this term!
In Literacy, we have spent the first two weeks of the term reviewing our Stage 7.3 phonemes and graphemes. We will begin our last stage of Little Learners, Stage 7.4, in Week 3 with the long vowel sound ‘a’ as in chase to the gate /a/ and acorns in April /a/!
In Writing, we have been learning how to connect two sentences together using a matching conjunction. We have also been reviewing how to edit a sentence to make sure that it includes:
Our first knowledge unit of Term 3 is exploring and learning all about the Olympic Games! Students have learnt about the history of the games, as well as some sports which are played in the summer and winter olympics. We are looking forward to learning about different sports and athletes in the coming weeks, as well as getting to watch Australia in the Olympics and Paralympics.
In Mathematics, we have begun learning strategies to help us solve multiplication sums. The strategies we are learning include equal groups of, repeated addition and arrays. Below is an example:
In Numeracy students have also started to learn about fractions. We are learning that a half is two equal parts of a whole, that quarters are four equal parts of a whole and that eighths are eight equal parts of a whole.
In SEL, we have been exploring empathy and the feeling of being included vs excluded. We role played different situations and discussed how we feel with our friends. Students strengthened their understanding that doing something kind, like asking someone else to join a game, can help others feel appreciated and valued.
