Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another fantastic two weeks at TPS with many wonderful events in our school and advancement in students learning and wellbeing.

Last week it was a joy to visit the Foundation spaces and celebrate their first 100 days of school with them.  I was greeted at the door by many 100-year-old people/students! There were many grey-headed students with curlers, walking sticks and old fashion clothes from over 100 years ago. The event was an opportunity to celebrate their amazing journey at our school and to celebrate the achievements and milestones over the last 100 days.

Congratulations to our Foundation students and of course our amazing staff members!

On this cold brisk morning, we farewelled a large group of grade 6 students and staff at 7 am for three days of ski camp. There was much-excited chatter as the students prepared to board the bus for the two-and-a-half-hour drive to Mt Buller. The students will undertake several ski lessons and participate in other activities for the three days. We look forward to welcoming them back on Friday and we anticipate many wonderful stories of their adventures.

A huge thank you to the staff involved with the camp (Ms. De Angelis, Ms. Byron, Ms. Morrison, Ms. Rechner, Mr. Pepi, and two volunteers), it is a huge commitment for them to make this event happen, putting their lives and families on hold to create this amazing experience for our students.

We also take the time to thank our parent community who have contributed money to our school funds, to support others to attend excursions, camps, and other great educational and social opportunities. We are lucky to have such a generous community that happily enables all students to have these amazing opportunities.   Thank-you

Money contributed to our school – We thank-you!

We are immensely grateful for our school community’s generous contributions to our Building and Grounds Trust Fund over the years. Due to your support, we have successfully installed a moveable soundproof wall ($25,000)  in the Foundation classrooms. This addition has created an outstanding sound barrier, and our staff are amazed by its effectiveness.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire community for donating to the Building Trust Fund. It is through these contributions that the School Council Building and Grounds Committee could make this wonderful enhancement possible.

Thank you once again for your continued support.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

This is a reminder that our school is surveying to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

The survey is optional, but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from during August in 2024.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

The survey results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through annual reporting and through our newsletter and school council.

STUDENT SAFETY

As the warmer weather approaches and more children are walking and riding to school it is important to remind your child/children about general safety as they travel to and from school.

Some tips for parents are, to make sure children walk in groups, stay on the main walking paths, walk home at the same time as other school families (straight after school) discuss where other families live on the walk home if they are ever needed, come to school at around the same time as others and utilise our TheirCare/Out of home School care if an early start or late finish is required.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students on their outstanding NAPLAN results! The hard work, commitment, and resilience shown by our students have certainly paid off and is shown in our outstanding results. The overall results for our school were outstanding – 9 out of the 10 measures we are performing ahead of similar schools to our own. In some cases, we are outperforming network and similar schools by up to 10 to 14%. An amazing achievement!

Plans for 2025.

As in all school communities, some families relocate at the end of the year. It is very helpful for our planning and much appreciated at this early stage, if you could advise the office if you know you will not be returning to Toorak Primary School in 2025.

Workforce planning for the year ahead commences in Term 3. Prep enrolments and information about families leaving Toorak Primary School help us plan for the overall organisation of the school in the new year.

Kind regards,

Sharon Wildermuth
