Year 9 Day Camp
On Monday the 17th of June the Year 9’s of Diamond Valley College headed out to Lower Plenty to Amberley, a beautiful property where there were four unique activities for all of us to try. Each student participated in all of them which were all fun. All activities used the key skill of cooperating in every group, every fun game had everyone’s brain working. The group activities consisted of building a structure around the egg and then throwing an egg off the balcony without it cracking, keeping the ball up in the air without it hitting the ground while teachers made it harder for the students, cops and robbers on the tennis courts. The last activity consisted of a teacher asking us questions and us answering them about respectful relationships.

These Taskmaster games included singing along to the lyrics, making the tallest tower out of pasta and marshmallows as well as making the longest minties wrapper and many more. For every round there was a winner who received a small prize which was some lollies. All year 7s who attended this day had so much fun and made so many memories to finish off the 1st semester.

VCE Biology Excursion to AgriBio at La Trobe University
By Chloe Shaw
On Wednesday 26th of June, the Year 12 Biology class were lucky enough to attend AgriBio at La Trobe University. Here, we learnt about DNA sequencing and genotyping for plants and livestock. In the morning workshop, we got to work in a lab in groups and practice lab work. We also learnt how to create the most efficient crops that are disease resistant and produce the most produce. In the afternoon, we examined gum trees and their evolutionary relationships in phylogenetic trees using an app on our computers. It was a great day and the information we learnt will help us prepare for our upcoming exam. Thanks to our teacher Katie for giving us this opportunity.
Dante Aliighieri Poetry Competition Finals
On the 25th of June, five students of DVC were invited to participate in the Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition’s finals. After a long journey by train and tram, we found a vibrant crowd of students of Italian from several schools of Melbourne who were enthusiastically wearing their colorful uniforms, at times full of pins and medals, and rehearsing Italian poems in the corridors and rooms of one of Melbourne University's building. Hope McNamara and Puneet Mahal from year 9 learnt ‘Il lampo, by Giovanni Pascoli, Zac Cangialosi ‘L’infinito’ by Giacomo Leopardi and Zoe Fitzpatrick and Phoebe Whitworth ‘Ritorno’, written by Mariano Coreno. There we also met Rose Marasco, who taught Zoe and Zac in junior school years!
All of them did an amazing job and Zoe won second place among all the year 11 students. The award ceremony will be in Term 4 and hopefully we will all go to celebrate Zoe’s great achievement and the fantastic effort of all our Italian students.
Evviva! 😊

Quantum Federation News! Enigmatic new virus discovered....can your students save the world?
High ability students in years 9 and 10 work in teams and apply their acquired knowledge on viruses, mutations and transmissions when presented with a Global Pandemic. Students apply their acquired skills and knowledge throughout the experience using simulations, algorithmic thinking, and mathematics without numbers, words, or calculations during the immersive game, The Virus.
Part of this event will expose students to flashing lights in darkened rooms and may not be suitable for students with epilepsy/migraines/sensory input issues. If you are registering for this event, please include a note if this may impact any of your students so that we can discuss further with you.

Womens Forum
On Tuesday the 16th, 2 staff members and 3 students Chloe, Sienna and Maggie, were given the opportunity to participate in the ‘women’s pain round table’ forum with the minister of health for Victoria Mary-Anne Thomas and it was hosted by member for Eltham Vicki Ward.
We were pleased to learn about what women really have to say about their pain. ‘Maybe its anxiety?’ You’ll have to learn to live with it’ This is not okay, no one should have to have their pain dismissed and ignored.
With Jacinta Allen’s help the labour government is helping the women of Victoria change women’s health issues and the way they are treated. It has given us insight into the issues of women’s health and ways to improve the quality of care for everyone.
Diamond Valley College Winter Concert
As you may know we just had our annual winter showcase, and we had the pleasure of MCing the night. This showcase is a great opportunity for many students to showcase their musical abilities, no matter how experienced they were.
Everyone had an opportunity to stand in the spotlight both on their own and as part of an ensemble. These students, ranging through different year levels, spent many weeks both at school and outside of school practicing for this performance to represent the DVC instrumental music program and have a chance to experience the spotlight.
Special thanks to Jordan, our head instrumental teacher, Eva and Gary, our classroom music teachers and other staff for helping bring this concert to fruition.
Thank you to the audience for coming to see our many talented students perform and encouraging them while on stage. Congratulations to the performers for doing an amazing job on the night.
