JUNIOR SCHOOL UPDATE

Welcome back to Semester Two! Much like last Semester we have a busy two terms ahead. For their first time, our current Year 8 students will be completing their subject selections for 2025. The information webinar will take place on the Wednesday 7th of August with the selection portal being open to students on Thursday 8th August. In order to assist students with their choices, please refer to the Handbook on our school website.

Our Year 9 students will participate in City Experience in the last week of this term. This is an exciting opportunity for them to be independent, experience new things and learn a lot about the city we live in. Students and families will be receiving specific information about this in upcoming weeks.

Vanessa,  our Head of Wellbeing has organised many programs this Semester to support student engagement, learning and wellbeing. Some are targeted intervention while others are for entire year levels.

All year 7 and 8 students will be participating in a Head Space presentation and workshop on the 7th and 8th of August. Year 8 students will also be involved in the ‘Same Page’ Program in mid-August. We also have students from different year levels involved in I AM MINDFUL along with the Boys to Adolescent Program.

We aim to have our Youth Liaison Officer come and speak to students again regarding bullying, violence, drugs taking and other vital topics. These guest speakers and programs are vital in shaping our young people to have the knowledge and awareness needed to keep themselves happy and safe.

A huge focus for this Semester, in Junior School, is attendance. We will be heavily monitoring student’s attendance and making sure we are celebrating those who make huge efforts to attend school consistently.

 JUNIOR SCHOOL CELEBRATION ASSEMBLIES

On Tuesday 18th June our year 7, 8 and 9 students had a wonderful celebration assembly. Here we acknowledged achievements for our three school values: respect, responsibility and achievement.

We also celebrated students with extremely strong attendance. Impressively at each year level there were many students with above 95% attendance for this year so far! Those who participated in leadership opportunities such as helping run parent tours were also recognised.

In total over 400 certificates were distributed.

As a Sub-School we understand that celebrating student’s effort will act as a driving force to help motivate them further in achieving engagement and overall success.

To see our students filled with pride was very rewarding and helps transform students from passive learners to self-motivated learners.

This Semester we will continue to have students set specific goals especially in relation to their attendance. As staff we will help empower them to achieve their goals both academically and personally.
