NAPLAN
NAPLAN
Parents and Carers of students should have recently received their NAPLAN student report for 2024, which students participated in, in March.
Individual reports are sent to parents and show a students’ results based on proficiency standards that provide information on student achievement.
There are 4 proficiency levels:
- Exceeding: The student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: The student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: The student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: The student’s result indicated that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
As a school we receive many reports that we are able to analyse to gain a better understanding of how individual students, groups of students and year level cohorts performed on the NAPLAN assessment, as well as tracking the progress of students from Grade 3 to 5. The teaching and learning and leadership teams have spent time unpacking this data and have identified the following:
- There are significantly more students in the Grade 3 (20) and Grade 5 (11) cohorts compared to previous years
- Grade 3 Reading has shown an increase in the number of students who are Strong and Exceeding
- Grade 3 Grammar and Punctuation has shown an increase in the overall scale score
- Grade 5 Reading has shown an increase in the overall scale score and we have increased the number of students in Strong and Exceeding
- Grade 5 Writing is above similar and network schools with an increase in both Strong and Exceeding students and scale score
- Grade 5 Spelling is also above similar and network schools, with an increase in scale score and the number of students in Exceeding
- Grade 5 Numeracy increased in scale score and students who are exceeding
- Grade 5 Grammar and Punctuation had a larger scale score increase.
- Comparing data from 2023-2024 we have a larger number of students making medium to high growth in Reading and Numeracy
Overall, we are pleased with our NAPLAN data and have also used this to identify some areas of focus for Semester 2, to support all students to reach their potential. NAPLAN data as well as our regular classroom-based assessments assist us to select students for both intervention and extension groups, to target students’ individual needs.
