PLC 2

Welcome back to PLC 2 for Term 3. What a busy and exciting term we have ahead!

So far, we have been focusing on the Olympics and learning about many of the athletes that will be involved. Students have been learning about using text features and identifying important information. We have also begun writing, trying to put ourselves in the athletes' shoes. Our narratives incorporate beautiful descriptions of how the competitors would be feeling at different intervals throughout the event and students have worked hard to capture the atmosphere that we are beginning to see from the crowds at the 2024 games.

In Numeracy students started the term looking at place value. We were simply blown away by the length of numbers that students were able to read when they came to understand the patterns that exist within our number system. Why not ask them to show you at home? We then moved on to looking at number lines and worked hard to improve our justifications when placing numbers accurately on them. Over the next couple of weeks students will be looking at multiplication and division and learning a range of efficient strategies to solve problems.

We have also been immersing ourselves in the world that is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, working incredibly hard to come up with our class and PLC concert performances. We have been putting together concert costumes and are loving all the effort that has gone in behind the scenes at home to make students shine. Please remember that if you have not brought a costume into school, that you must do so this week to ensure that we are organised for the upcoming concert photos on Monday 5th and Tuesday the 6th of August.

Please ensure that you have read the concert news and information in this newsletter to ensure that you are up to date with the most relevant concert information!

Dear PLC5 Parents, Guardians and Carers,

We are delighted to share that Semester 2 has begun on a fantastic note! Our students have shown tremendous enthusiasm for learning, and their behaviour has been exemplary. It's wonderful to see them settled back in and engaged in the classroom environment.

What We're Learning

Here's a quick overview of what we've been exploring in class:

  • Numeracy: We've been delving into the concepts of perimeter and area, helping students understand how to calculate and apply these measurements in various contexts.
  • Reading: Our focus has been on predictions and connections, encouraging students to think critically about texts and relate them to their own experiences and prior knowledge.
  • Writing: Inspired by the Olympic spirit, we're writing descriptions and narratives related to the Olympics. Students are crafting stories and descriptions that capture the excitement and athleticism of this

Concert Practice and Costumes

As we gear up for our upcoming concert, we want to remind everyone that costume practice is in full swing. It's been exciting to watch the students prepare for their performances.  Concert photos will be taken on Monday. To ensure everyone looks their best, we kindly ask that all costumes be brought in as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation!

Camp to Silverband Lodge

Our much-anticipated camp to Silverband Lodge is approaching in Week 7, and we know the students are looking forward to it. This will be an excellent opportunity for them to build new skills and friendships. Please note that payment and consent forms are due in 2 weeks. Your timely submission will help us finalise arrangements and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. We look forward to a productive and exciting second semester. Should you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards,

The PLC5 Team

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grade 6)

Welcome back to Term 3!  We hope you all had a safe and restful holidays as we prepare for a very busy Term 3.

At the end of Term 2, our Grade 6 Team ran a successful Hot Chocolate and Cookie event to raise money for our Grade 6 Graduation.  Thanks to all of the families who purchased this item (over 400 were made!!).  Our Grade 6s enjoyed handing them all out and making sure they arrived with a smile!  Pictured are 6A writing the names on the top of the lids.

Further to this, Delacombe Primary School staff assisted at a Bunnings BBQ, once again raising money for our PLC6 Graduation.  With over 600 sausages sold, it has helped us get closer to achieving our fundraising goals.

This Term, we are working through the text “Paper Planes”.  We know that some students have watched and enjoyed the movie, so we look forward to creating some excellent writing and reading work based off this text.  In Numeracy, we are starting to look at Algebra and how the letters can represent numbers.

As always, we are practising the concert moves and lyrics at any opportunity, and we look forward to being able to showcase our hard work to the school community.  A notice went home at the end of Term 2 regarding our Costume Requirements.  Please speak to your child or your teacher as to the requirements, as they are needing to be at school by Friday the 2nd of August, ready for photos the week after.
