The  Olympic Games are upon us again with the libraries getting into the spirit of this exciting time. We have two very colourful displays highlighting both the Olympic and para Olympics. Two of Australia’s greatest track athletes were John Landy and Ron Clark  with John  Landy winning a bronze medal at the 1956 Olympics for the 1500 metres and Ron Clark earned a bronze medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo for the 10,000 metres.  There is an incredible link between Landy and Clark which is embedded in Australian sporting folklore. At the 1956 National Championships prior to the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, in the final of the mile race Landy stopped during the race to check on Clark who had been scraped on the shoulder by another runner and then Landy went on to win the race. The sportsmanship shown by Landy has inspired many athletes to not only strive to win but do it in a fair and civil way. There is a sculpture of this moment at Olympic Park Melbourne.
