Cranbourne Campus News

Wow - that is how to launch term 3

Forget about the West End in London or Broadway in the USA, 55 MacKillop Way Clyde North is where you needed to be last week to see a world class theatrical production. More detailed reports of “Bring it On"- the St Peter's College Musical  will feature in other parts of this publication and so I will keep my commentary short, suffice to say that this year's College Production was a resounding success with audiences in awe of the singing, acting and dancing of our students.

If you had a chance to see the back stage you will have witnessed organisation and collaboration that mirrored a well oiled machine with everyone knowing where they had to be and what needed to be done. And as an audience out front you will have witnessed professional lighting and effects and the outstanding sound quality of our state of the art Geode centre and of course the exceptional talent of our St Peter's College students.

Two years in and the St Peter's College Production is coming to be a highlight of the calendar - regardless if you have a child performing or not, when the dates come out for next year's show make sure you block it out in your calendar and make it a priority to book it in. History would say that the staff and students at St Peter’s will give you an extravaganza that you would otherwise need to go far and wide to experience.

Well done to all those involved in 2024 - it was breathtaking.

What comes first?

Many sage thinkers advise us that it is actually action that inspires motivation and not the other way around. Too often as teachers and parents we hear students mix up the order - ‘I am not motivated to get started’, when in fact it is after getting started that momentum builds and the motivation is unearthed - this is captured perfectly in one of my favorite sayings ‘When the wind isn't blowing, row’. As parents and teachers it can be a slog to help young people to realise this and we are constantly trying to find the balance between pushing our young people to find their drive to study and work, and offering them the opportunities and the information and inviting them to find their own path.

Monday's Futures Day and the subsequent conversations and presentations from external universities and TAFE providers, are designed to whet the appetite of our young people and help them see what could be ahead for them. Because, while action is a precursor to motivation, and just getting going is a start, there is little doubt that having clear and achievable goals and an idea of the opportunities that exist at the end of school, are ingredients that can assist a young person to stay the course and keep rowing when the wind dies down and things get hard.

I encourage our Year 9 and 10 students and parents to make the most of subject selection interviews in the coming days as a way of having that personal check in with a teacher to ensure that the course of subjects being set will open doors to TAFE and university for your child and match their interests and abilities.
