In 2014, Zygmunt Wolinski, a teacher at the then East Campus of St. Peter’s College, instigated the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) program. The program ran for several years with students from both the then East and West Campuses joining the program.
The team entered several competitions in 2014. The Rock records three competitions for 2014. They were held at Casey Fields, Knox, and a return to Casey Fields. Training took place around the Casey Fields Criterion after school each Friday. Initial events were over a period of six hours. The winner of the event was the team that had completed the most laps in the six-hour period.
In 2015, the HPV Team competed in two twenty-four-hour events: Wonthaggi in March and the prestigious Maryborough twenty-four-hour event which can attract up to twenty thousand spectators. The team also raced two HPVs in 2015.
Pictured below is Mr. Wolinski and the original HPV. Also pictured are team members and the two HPVs that were raced in 2015.
In response to a reader’s question: The Pilgrims that walked the Camino in 2014 were Fr. Denis O’Bryan, Staff members, Tim Hogan, Roger Hampson, Marlene Jorgensen, Jo Hart, Rebecca Crozier, and April Hampson. Other pilgrims were students Cameron Woods (Yr.12), Dean Spring (Yr.9) Polo Lacanienta (Yr.9) and sixteen parishioners with a connection to the College. One of whom was former Board Member and parent, Mrs. Pauline Hunt.

Yr 10 RSPCA Visit
Early in Term 3, our year 10 Applied learning students visited the RSPCA on Burwood Highway. The students were given information on the operation of the animal shelter and how the RSPCA cares for animals once they enter their facility. Students were given a tour of the facility and were able to inspect the animals up for adoption. We also got to meet Lexi, a beautiful chocolate labrador who was rescued at the facility 5 years ago.
Student learnings from the day included;
‘Something I learnt today was the dogs into quarantine (for 8 days) when they are new to the RSPCA shelter’ - Shakira
‘I learnt about how chickens can be mistreated and we should allow them to be in a natural environment’ - Laura
‘I learnt there are over 11.000 animals that go to the RSPCA per year’ - Tom
“My favourite experience from today was petting the goats. Seeing the animals and being able to learn more about adoption” - Emma
All students developed a further appreciation of the work the RSCPA do and how we all should care for our animals. But I think Juddy summed up our visit today appropriately;
‘The message I received today was appreciate the life we live and look after the animals you have so they never go through what those animals do’

Instrumental Music
This year, St. Peter’s College introduced its brand new Instrumental Music Program! Students from Years 7 to 12 have embarked on their musical journeys under the expert guidance of instrumental music teachers Austin Brady, Kaya Emre, and Shani Wakefield. Our talented students have already showcased their skills in the St. Peter’s Day Talent Quest and the college production of Bring It On. We look forward to their performances in upcoming events throughout the rest of the year.
The St. Peter’s College Instrumental Music Program offers students the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments, including singing, piano, guitar, and bass. With sufficient interest, we also plan to offer drum lessons.
Key features of the program include:
- Tailored Lessons: Customized lessons to suit students' interests, whether it’s sight-reading, music theory, preparing for senior music exams, learning specific pieces, or improvisation.
- Group Lessons: Small group sessions to foster teamwork and a sense of community among students.
- Private Lessons: One-on-one instruction to help students develop their skills at their own pace.
- Performance Opportunities: Students will have the chance to perform in school concerts, assemblies, and competitions.
Whether your child is a budding musician or an experienced player looking to enhance their skills, our program offers something for everyone.
Enrollment is now open! To register or learn more about our program, please visit the St. Peter’s College website or contact Andrew Church at achurch@stpeters.vic.edu.au.
