No Whole School Assembly for Scotsburn

This Friday morning due to the open mornings at both campuses, we will not be starting the day at Buninyong for the Whole School Assembly. We will begin the day as normal at Scotsburn, running our regular morning literacy program. This will give any visitors who may be visiting the campus a great sense of how the campus looks and feels during a usual morning in the classrooms. To make up for this, we will visit the Buninyong campus next Tuesday as part of our Questacon incursion - see below!

Questacon Science Circus IncursionTuesday 4th March

As you may have seen on Compass, Ms Middlin has invited the Scotsburn students to join the Buninyong students next Tuesday to participate in an amazing STEM incursion - Questacon Science Circus!

These shows are a free, fun and engaging way for students to explore science. Questacon aims for students to get involved, test their ideas, and spark curiosity in science that they can take away with them inside and outside the classroom. The Questacon presenters will guide students through an hour of stimulating shows where students will have the opportunity to participate and connect with.

SC1 will have their session from 10am - 11am, with SC2 from 11:30am - 12:30pm.

Both classes will start the day at the Buninyong Campus, meeting in the courtyard at 8:45am. We will use some of the morning to visit the library and borrow some books.

Scotsburn students will then bus back to Scotsburn to finish the day in their classrooms at Scotsburn, with a normal 3:30pm finish.

We will be sure to provide some reminders on Compass early next week. Thanks Ms Middy for organising such a fun experience!

Grade 6 GRIP Leadership Conference Tuesday 4th March

Also next Tuesday, we have a couple of Scotsburn Grade 6 students joining a big contingent of Grade 6 students from the Buninyong campus on a trip to the GRIP leadership conference in Melbourne. The GRIP Leadership Conference is an exciting opportunity for students to explore leadership and grow as leaders. Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the day features interactive presentations, activities, games and discussions with students from across the state.

This will be a wonderful opportunity for students who attend and will provide lots of knowledge and skills to bring back to the campus.

Grade 3 - 6 Interhouse Athletics Day - Wednesday 5th March

Continuing our busy week next week, we have our Grade 3 - 6 Athletics Day next Wednesday. For our SC2 students (including all Scotsburn Grade 3s), we will be starting and finishing the day at the Buninyong Campus. Students will catch a bus to and from the Llanberris athletics track, where they will participate in a range of track and field events, scoring points for their house colour. Students are encouraged to come to school in their house colours, ready for a big day of fun and activities. Don’t forget a hat, sunscreen and a drink bottle!

Fete Help!

The Fete is slowly but surely sneaking up on us, with the big day being Friday 21st March. We have now confirmed our Scotsburn stalls, with SC1 Running a BBQ and SC2 running the Pulled Pork Rolls stand. These stalls should run very smoothly as we were able to run both these at the last fete in 2023. All ordering and preparation should be taken care of, however we will definitely be requiring lots of assistance on the night.

Please see below a volunteer roster for the night. We would love to have all spots filled. It is also great to involve the students at the stalls, particularly the older students.

Scotsburn Fete Volunteer Roster 2025

As part of our set up for the two stalls, we are also on the hunt for a couple of slow cookers, a couple of eskys and a gazebo. If you can help with any of these items, please let one of the Scotsburn staff know.

Teddy Bears Picnic - Friday 7th March

Teddy Bears picnic is finally here. Next week the preps from Buninyong will join us at Scotsburn for the annual Teddy Bears Picnic. On this day the children will be involved in a range of different activities. Children will need to bring a teddy bear with their name on it. It will be a fun day.

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter our Year 3 and 5 students have NAPLAN coming up later this term - see the table below for dates and times.

For Scotsburn families, please speak to Mr Morgan if you have any questions regarding NAPLAN.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

This week we have once again a lot to celebrate! One of the things to celebrate was the students' homework. For the first time in Buninyong/Scotsburn history, for this year, everyone returned their homework complete! To say we were impressed would be an understatement. So thank you, families for your support to set aside some time to complete the homework tasks. All the students were so proud to share their work with each other, and it was especially nice for us to discuss some of the different cultural celebrations shared amongst our families. It was especially exciting to see the amount of nights filled out in home reading logs.

On this note, the students would like to have a goal to aim for. So by the end of the term if students read 25 nights and record these in their logs they will earn a reward. Their choice of reward will be decided this week and celebrated in the last week of term.

In Literacy, students have been learning how to extend their sentences. By including key information of who, what, when, where and why. They used picture prompts to extend their sentences and write the sounds they could hear in words. I was so impressed with the amount of students wanting to share their fantastic writing during our Friday assembly.

In Maths, we have been continuing to explore our data, collecting and recording. The students really enjoyed this unit. They especially enjoyed collecting data from their peers and recording these in a graph.

Have a wonderful week,

Chelsea and Beth

SC2 Learning Snapshot

The term is certainly flying along, with so much already achieved in such a short space of time. In SC2 over the last week, we have been continuing to dig deep into the text, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, analysing key themes and symbolism in the book. It has been so pleasing to see students transfer this knowledge into their narrative writing, where students have been spending time uplevelling simple sentences to sensational sentences. How great was it to see some students share these sentences at assembly last week!

During our Respectful Relationships lessons this week, students in SC2 have had a look at positive self talk and setting some positive affirmations for themselves. This has also led to creating personal reflections and understanding tools that display each students’ personal growth and learning during a given topic. These will become regularly used charts for our students across the year.

As you have read above, there certainly is lots happening over the next few weeks for our students. Please come and see us if you are requiring any clarification with any of the upcoming events and activities.

Have another awesome week everyone,

Jarrod and Liz

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
