Exciting Two Weeks Study Tour Program with Japanese Students

Our school recently had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from Japan for an enriching two weeks study tour program. The visit was filled with exciting activities and cultural exchanges, offering both our Japanese guests and their buddy students unforgettable experiences. From hands-on cooking sessions to attending classes, the program was an excellent opportunity to learn about different cultures, share knowledge, and forge new friendships.

The students took part in a variety of engaging activities, such as cooking lessons where they had the chance to prepare local dishes and enjoy the flavors of our region. They also visited the local shopping center, where they practiced ordering coffee at a café, providing them with a practical and fun way to experience our daily life and language. A special art class allowed them to express their creativity, while a drumming session introduced them to the rhythms of Aboriginal culture. One of the highlights of the visit was an incredible Aboriginal performance, where the students had the chance to witness the rich traditions and history of Australia firsthand.

Throughout the program, the Japanese students were paired with buddy students from our school who were eager to show them around and attend classes together. These buddy relationships were key to making the experience even more memorable and meaningful, as they helped bridge cultural differences and created lasting connections between the students.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the buddy students for their warm hospitality and enthusiasm in making the Japanese students feel welcome. Your kindness and involvement made the program a huge success. Additionally, a special thank you to our international staff who worked tirelessly to organize and coordinate the tour. Your dedication ensured that everything ran smoothly and created an environment where both our international guests and our students could learn and grow together.

This study tour not only deepened our understanding of Japanese culture but also highlighted the importance of cross-cultural communication and friendship. We look forward to more opportunities for international exchange and the continued collaboration between our school and others around the world.

Thank you again to everyone involved in making this study tour a fantastic experience!

2024 Taiwan STEM Program - Testimonial and Reflection

You may or may not have heard of Education Queensland’s opportunities for students to enrich their learning overseas. One of these trips is called the STEM Taiwan Trip, which invites students in year 10 who are currently studying both Chinese and STEM to apply to potentially be selected as one of 10 students across the state to go to Taiwan. What does it cost? Nothing. All airfares, accommodation, transport and most meals are covered.

I was one of the lucky applicants who had the privilege to travel to Taiwan last year over the Christmas holidays and it was absolutely amazing. You don’t just take integration classes—you also participate in various hands-on STEM and cultural activities. While in Taiwan, I visited the National Palace Museum, where I learned about the country’s unique and rich history. Additionally, I explored the iconic Taipei 101, the tallest building in Taiwan at over 500 meters, and investigated its structural design. Beyond this, you also build lifelong connections—not only with fellow students on the trip but, most importantly, with local students from Taiwan.

One of my favourite memories was interacting with everyone, including students from the school I was based at, those from other schools we visited for STEM activities, my wonderful homestay family, and even people I met in public.

So, if you are a student currently in Year 10 and you are studying and are passionate in both Chinese and STEM subjects, I highly recommend you apply for this program as it is a blast.
