Principal's Page

Dear Families,

Last week we celebrated Catholic Education Week with St Joseph's participating in many  activities to celebrate it. Students attended the annual Mass of St Patrick and concert in the Treasury Gardens, Assunta and Jessie attended the SAC Chair Dinner, students artwork being selected and displayed at the Creative Arts Exhibition and various school based events such as St Joseph's Day and  Open Day.

At the Annual Children's Mass we prayed that the Holy Spirit may inspire students' hearts and may students embrace the call to be pilgrims of hope, leading the world towards a future of faith, compassion and joy.

St Joseph's Day

We had a wonderful day last Wednesday celebrating the patron saint of our school St Joseph and acknowledging that we all belong to the St Joseph's School community. Thank you to Jess, Jenny and Jacqui for organising the day of activities and to all the parent volunteers who assisted in various ways.

The Sorrento Schools Community Fete

We all enjoyed another fantastic community event at the fete, connecting as a community and raising funds for the pool that we share with Sorrento Primary School. There were so many highlights and many memories created. Thank you again to everyone who supported the fete whether itbe by attending, volunteering on a stall, donations etc. A special thanks to the organising committee: Assunta Galbraith, Louise Heinnen,  Jacqui Hayes, Phoebe Muller and Caili O'Toole. Please support the sponsors who supported us. They are listed on the Fete page of this newsletter.

St Joseph's Award

Congratulations Max and Evie on receiving the St Joseph's Award last week acknowledging students who consistently uphold our school values and behaviour expectations.

Learning Conferences

Student/Teacher/Parent Learning Conferences are a wonderful opportunity to discuss with  your child's teacher, their progress, next steps in their learning progression and goals. Students are encouraged to attend but this is left to the parents' discretion. These will take place again this Wednesday. Please check the Operoo that was sent out a few weeks ago.

National eSmart Week

It takes a village. Keeping children and young people safe online takes collective effort – from government, tech companies, and everyone in the community. It’s government’s responsibility to ensure children’s digital rights are upheld and realised – setting minimum standards based on community expectations and holding tech companies to account for not meeting these standards.

It’s tech companies’ responsibility to prevent their services and products from being used in ways that violate children’s rights and which expose children to harms while using their services and platforms.

And it’s up to the rest of us to take responsibility to upskill and educate ourselves and our children on how to navigate tech and the online world safely and confidently; to participate with them in their digital worlds, not just police them. Please keep our responsibilities in mind with school holidays coming up.
