PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.  As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways. We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land. Thank you.

Dear Parents and Carers,

FACILITIES UPDATE:

This week the staff, our school council President Sean Abell and I had the pleasure of visiting the construction site of the new Gymnasium. We were all blown away by the sheer size of the building and the facility that we are going to enjoy when it is completed later in the year.

It is going to house a competition size basketball court that will also have netball and other games markings along with a good size storage area for all of our sports equipment, toilets and change room facilities, a beautiful foyer area and an incredible canteen that will have a servery for future whole school events.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been busy in the background attending to the maintenance of our grounds and buildings, here is a quick update of works completed and what’s still to come:

  • Steam cleaning of the Junior building and main hallways in the office area

  • New blinds on the first floor have been installed in the new building and in 3-4weeks time when they are finalised there will also be blinds on the ground floor

  • All the shade sails near the sand pit and junior playground will be repaired and or replaced along with new pole pads to offer further safety (this work will be completed in the term break)

  • The sandpit and playgrounds will be topped up in two weeks time

  • I am working with the shade sail company to build a shaded area in front of the new building

  • All our fire exits and fire hydrants in all buildings including those outside have been serviced and ready for any future emergencies

  • All our air conditioners have been serviced and all electrical lights and switches serviced

  • We have conducted inspections and audits of all our trees

WORKING BEE

Please help support our school council 'Building and grounds committee' with their first working bee for the year which will be on Saturday 15th March from 4.00pm to 6.30pm. They will be concentrating on the front section of our school grounds, and they have a lot to achieve to make the entrance look amazing and inviting! They are calling for all children, "tradies" and everyone else who can help with planting and carpentry (repairing seats).

Please RSVP via the link below: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/wbee15march

HARMONY DAY AND INCLUSIVITY WEEK- WEAR ORANGE- FRIDAY 21ST MARCH

Harmony Day (21 March 2025) is part of Harmony Week, which celebrates Australia’s amazing cultural diversity. During this week, schools celebrate inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for all Australians, from the traditional custodians of the land to those who have come from many countries around the world.

The week of inclusiveness is celebrated from Monday, 17 to Sunday, 23 March 2025, so there will be plenty of opportunities to create and participate in activities all week long.

With the motto ‘Everyone belongs’, Harmony Week encourages us to appreciate our differences and similarities, promote inclusiveness, and show mutual respect for everyone, regardless of race, colour, religion, or background.

Let’s come together to celebrate Harmony Week 2025 and wear Orange on Friday 21st March, our SRC captains and class reps are raising money for students in Cambodia.

MOORABBIN PS IDOL!!!

Mr Van Berkel and Ms Fallon have introduced MPS Idol to our assemblies this year to showcase our talented students. They met last week to discuss how ‘MPS Idol’ will work and decided that it be a competition (like the ‘Idol’ show) but the focus will be on showcasing and celebrating the talents that our students have. One big emphasis will be on ‘Practice, practice, practice’ in order for performances to be polished and audition-ready and performance-ready. The main rationale for this is that they want it to be engaging for the audience.

They will accept singing, dancing, playing an instrument and circus skills (e.g. juggling) that don’t require a lot of space. No gymnastics routines such as backflips and cartwheels. It will be open to students from Yrs 1-6. Each act should be 3 minutes maximum.

This week we had Emma Li from 4F who was our first MPS Idol performer at assembly yesterday. She played keyboard and sounded great. Here are a couple of photos.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY MARCH 8TH

I end my newsletter with honouring all the women in our school and community. This day reminds us of the importance of celebrating all the amazing and hard-working women who make our school and world a better place. It’s a special day to remember how important it is to be kind, brave and to help each other.

Enjoy the long weekend and Happy International Women’s Day!
