YEAR 7 CAMP

YEAR 7 CAMP - GRANTVILLE
Year 7 Camp Reflection
Year Sevens/7s went on camp from the 19th of February to the 21st. In total we all did Eight/8 activities in the span of those three days. The activities included: The Giant Swing, Radio Run-About, High Ropes, Low Ropes, Canoeing (in a dam), Bush Cooking (making Damper), Team Initiatives and Archery.
The Giant Swing:
We had to be harnessed and when it was our turn, we were pulled up by the others in our activity groups. Once at the top we would let go of the rope that we held to our hip and WOOSH! We were sent flying down immediately! The Giant Swing is really great for overcoming high heights and maybe even frights about bungee jumping.
Radio Run-About:
We were put in groups of our choosing and given a folder slip with a mini map and a question sheet along with a walkie talkie. Once we had found the answer to a question, we would talk into the walkie talkie and say our answer, then the teacher directing us would tell us if the answer we had given was correct or not.
High Ropes:
High Ropes was mainly all about getting suited up into a harness where we had the choice of three/3 courses: The Catwalk, Leap of Faith and the Bridge. We had to strike a quick pose on the Catwalk, and with the Leap of Faith we had to attempt to jump and try to hit an object, and the Bridge was really wobbly and hard to walk on.
Low Ropes:
We had to get into small groups and practise our balance, but it was closer to the ground and not as challenging as the high ropes. We had some fun activities to do the whole way through with the activity.
Canoeing:
In Canoeing we had to buddy up with a partner, put a Life Jacket on for safety reasons of course and we were able to get into the canoe and on the water to do some fun activities and games. At the end, we had the choice if we wanted, to capsize (flip over) and have a good old swim in the dam for a bit.
Bush Cooking:
Nearby at the campfire area, we all had a chance to make some damper and obviously eat it with some toppings! (strawberry jam, honey, vegemite, etc). Some people’s damper was nice and crispy while others were slightly burned or undercooked. The dough was fun to make from scratch with flour and water and was a nice learning experience.
Team Initiatives:
With Team Initiatives we were all split into half, one group on one side, the other group on the other. Both groups had to try and figure out how to move two wood planks attached with rope. The trick was to have most or all of your group on each side of both the planks and use a steady rhythm and move one side with one foot, then the other side with the other foot. Also, you couldn’t have any people walking along side you and all of you had to at least have a turn. After doing the plank activity, we then did a blind conga line while trying to dodge objects that are laid on the ground.
Archery:
With Archery we had to have an arm guard on to protect our wrists from getting injured while pulling the bows with an arrow. Most people could get perfect shots, it was excellent! We all had a turn and it was a pretty fun activity.
