SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

It’s been another busy week at KSC, starting with a Leadership Forum at the Learning Hub run by Nicole Creaser and Chris Cronin, our Leading Teachers and subschool coordinators. Students who attended engaged in several activities and planned some initiatives to take back to school. I enjoyed discussing their projects with the groups and am looking forward to seeing how these students lead their ideas to become reality back at school.

The current School Council met for the last time on Tuesday night in a long but productive meeting. Nominations are open for six parent representatives and these close on Wednesday. It has been great to see the level of interest in these positions as a key priority this year is on engaging the community in our school. If you want more information please contact the school.

I visited Year 8 Camp at the Summit on Wednesday afternoon and despite very hot conditions, students were having a great time pushing themselves on some challenging activities.

On Thursday, I met with Year 11 student Zoe Hichisson who was accepted into the Rural Youth Ambassador Program and CEP (Country Education Partnership) representative. The RYA program involves four events throughout the year where 20 rural students from across Victoria meet in Melbourne and undertake leadership workshops to develop a project for their school. Rhiannon Rawlins was last year’s RYA and this year her project is establishing the Student Run Council at KSC which is a very exciting initiative that I am passionate about supporting. KSC has a long history with the RYA program and we appreciate the opportunities provided for our students.

On Friday I met with Gary and Darren from the Martin Carlson Foundation to develop further links between the Foundation and KSC. Their sponsorship of our two H2GP teams is much appreciated and their vision is “to provide help and support to young people enabling them to achieve goals and skills. To grow and align with new technologies, trade skills, knowledge and opportunities. This will benefit regional areas, cities & towns within Victoria.” They have interesting and visionary ideas to support our students to identify innovative career pathways and it is a privilege to be working with them to develop even more opportunities for our kids and our community.

Lastly I’d like to update the community on a motion that was passed at the Korumburra Round Table last Thursday night regarding lowering speed zones on Jumbunna Rd in peak periods. I am so grateful for the support our community gives to our school, and am hopeful that this motion, which is supported by South Gippsland Shire Council, as well as the KRT group, will be successful and improve safety for our families.
