Primary School

It is great to see many Registered Parent Volunteers back into the classrooms, working with our staff and students. At Moama Anglican Grammar, registered volunteers have many opportunities to be involved including; morning reading, cooking classes, working in the uniform shop, joining the Parent and Friends Association, assisting with sporting events, co-curricular activities, exam supervision, excursions and incursion. Parents who are involved at school:

  • can share their child’s strengths and interests with staff and suggest learning opportunities to build on these
  • feel empowered to raise concerns and negotiate solutions with staff
  • experience less stress, because they know they can work with staff on concerns about their child’s learning or development

Volunteer Inductions

To become a registered volunteer, the following process must be completed:

  1. Complete the 2025 Volunteer Agreement
  2. Attend a Volunteer Induction (contact the school on 03 5480 5950 to book in a time)
  3. Obtain a NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the registered volunteers who supported Shrove Tuesday by cooking delicious pancakes for the students in the Primary School.

Year 6 Leadership Flag Induction

On Wednesday 26 February, the new Year 6 leadership group completed their flag induction. With the support of the 2024 Year 6 School Leaders; Hugh Thomson, Ruby Law and Isobel Jennings, the students were shown the ropes. They learnt about flag protocols, symbolism and how to correctly use the flag poles to raise the flags. The Year 6 leadership group is responsible for raising and lowering the flags each day.

Family Life Education Program Years 4-6

I would like to thank Kelly Nash and Cath McCallig from Sex Ed 4 Schools for working collaboratively with our students in Years 4-6 this week. As part of the PDHPE and Pastoral Care programs, Kelly and Cath delivered engaging lessons and provided lots of new information on various topics.

“We were very lucky to have Cath and Kelly visit for Family Life, where they taught us about our bodies and helped us better understand them. They ran classroom sessions, provided evening information sessions, and guided us through important topics relevant to our age. In Year 6, we split into separate classes, with boys in one room and girls in the other, where Cath and Kelly continued teaching, answered our questions, and helped us explore different aspects of ourselves. Through open conversations, thoughtful discussions, and engaging activities, they encouraged us to consider and understand these important topics more deeply.”

Fundraiser

I would like to thank the school community for supporting the ‘Be Rare Be You’ fundraiser on Friday 28 February. We raised a total of $868.20 which will support the Fabry Foundation.

Primary Assembly

On Friday 28 February, the Primary School community connected at the first Primary Assembly for the year. I would like to congratulate James Cox and Rosie Grant, two of our Year 6 School Leaders, for confidently running the Assembly. We enjoyed beautiful performances from Hudson and Ayla Knight on piano. Year 12 Music Captains Zena Colacino and Gabrielle McMaster wowed the crowd with their solo performances on their chosen instruments drums and Maggie Hillman’s ballet performance had everyone in awe. Maggie showcased a ‘Grand Allegro’, a beautiful combination of fast, energetic jumps and leaps, allowing a dancer to express their own artistry and emotion through movement.

Students got excited to learn more about the Term 1 co-curricular opportunities, calendar events and the Take 3 Challenge. Mr McMahon congratulated the swimming age champions at our recent swimming carnival. In addition, we celebrated Tahlie Clydesdale who broke the school record in the 25m Breaststroke 11-year-old Girls and Maya Woolman who broke the school record in the 50m Breaststroke 10-year-old Girls. We look forward to our next Assembly on Friday 28 March when the Kindergarten students will perform for us. Congratulations to the students below who received a Core Value Award for consistently displaying one or more of the School’s Core Values and Motto. Keep up the great work!

Year 2 Matchbox Challenge

Over the past week, the Year 2 students have been working on the Matchbox Challenge. Students were given an empty matchbox, which they had to fill with as many little items as would fit, trying to beat Mr Davidson’s record of 26 items. In class, students participated and engaged in fun and enriching literacy and mathematics learning activities.

“We got set a challenge, a matchbox challenge! It was my first time doing it. I beat Mr D’s record, I got 30! I was very happy, my mind nearly exploded! It was very fun. We did some digital numbers with the matchsticks; I got up to twenty two. We made some 2D shapes with matchsticks and stuck them down with glue. In my box, I liked the coral the most because I got it from my mum's work friend. It is white and I like it a lot. It was from a coral reef. It was the best challenge yet!”

“We were set an impossible challenge, a matchbox challenge! Mr D and Miss Delmenico had us fill a small matchbox with as many things as we could find! I got thirty things in my box. In class we did lots of activities with our boxes. I loved glueing the matchsticks as 2D shapes to a piece of paper. We got to pick the coloured paper, I picked purple. We also made a list. I had help because I didn’t know how to spell some things. We also wrote how we collected our items.”

Primary Parent-Teacher Interviews

It was great to connect with many of our families at the Parent-Teacher Interviews this week. These interviews provide a formal opportunity for teachers, parents and carers to discuss student achievement and learning behaviour, share progress and establish future goals in partnership. It also gives teachers the chance to understand a little more about the students in their care whilst at school. With a lens on continuous improvement, we welcome any feedback parents may have to improve this experience. Please email your suggestions to the Primary School Office via email psreception@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au

Term 1 Co-Curricular Program

We are excited to present the co-curricular opportunities for Term 1. If parents have any questions about the programs on offer, they are encouraged to contact Mr Greg Cadd, Head of Student Experiences Co-Curricular.

The new e-Sports program proves popular amongst our Primary students with 34 eager Year 4 to Year 6 students entering into this co-curricular. Students have been embarking on an exciting journey into Minecraft: Education Edition. The initial sessions have focused on planning and brainstorming for the Australia’s Dreaming build challenge, where students will creatively interpret Dreaming stories through immersive Minecraft designs. Through teamwork, problem-solving, and digital creativity, students are developing their projects while gaining a deeper understanding of Indigenous culture. We can't wait to see the designs come to life!
