Extra Curricular Primary and Secondary Esports Program

It is an exciting time at our school! This year, Mr Paul Ward and I have introduced Esports in both our Secondary and Primary schools. We have teams of students participating in the AEL schools competition Series 1. As part of the competition, students are required to plan, build and present a world in Minecraft: Education Edition based on a given theme:

Primary Students (Years 4-6): "Australia’s Dreaming"

Secondary Student (Years 7-9): "Global Marvels"

We have two Secondary teams of students: one team of Year 7 students and one team of Year 9 students. The competition opened on the 3rd of March and final submissions are due on the 23rd of May.

There are four stages in the process:

Stage 1: Planning and Design (Weeks 1-4)

Stage 2: Building ( Weeks 5-10)

Stage 3: Internal Review and Judging ( Weeks 10-12)

Stage 4: External Judging and crowning of State and National Champions.

It has been exciting to see the buzz when the primary teams visit the Resource Centre at lunch time, busily researching and planning their minecraft worlds after working with Mr Ward as part of the Co-curricular program.

I am looking forward to starting this work with our Secondary team during lunchtime on Thursday and extending it into the SIM program for Year 9 students. During the first two weeks, students will be provided with:

  • Background and context information sheet
  • Presentation template
  • MInecraft Handbook - build challenge

Esports in the Primary

We were thrilled by the overwhelming interest, with 34 enthusiastic Year 4–6 students joining our Esports co-curricular group. Together, we have embarked on an exciting journey into Minecraft: Education Edition.

Our initial sessions have focused on planning and brainstorming for the Australia’s Dreaming build challenge, where students creatively interpret Dreaming stories through immersive Minecraft designs. Through teamwork, problem-solving and digital creativity, they are developing their projects while gaining a deeper understanding of Indigenous culture.

We can't wait to see their incredible builds come to life in the coming months!

Scholastic Book Club

Our first Book Club (Issue 2) of the year has arrived and has been distributed.

Please note that Book Club orders will close on Friday, 14th March 2025.

All orders at Moama Anglican Grammar must be placed through the LOOP at https://www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP or via the LOOP app. Once orders arrive, they will be distributed through your child’s classroom teacher.

Scholastic Book Club is something we run as a school once a term during Terms 1, 2, and 4. Did you know that every purchase you make through Book Club earns points towards resources for the school? Over the past few years, we have used these reward points to refresh well-loved books, expand our book series collections and purchase valuable resources to support classroom learning.

If secondary students wish to place an order, they can view the brochure here and choose one of the following ordering options:

  • Select "Library" as their class/year level. Once the order arrives, it will be distributed to the Year Level Coordinators for delivery to the student.
  • If they have a younger sibling in Primary, they can place an order under their sibling’s name in their respective class.

We greatly appreciate your support in helping us build a diverse and engaging collection that fosters a love of reading for pleasure.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The challenge begins on February 24th.

The challenge closes on August 22nd.

The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is upon us again.

Previous Participants:

All students who have previously participated in the Premier’s Reading Challenge previously will need to visit Ms Height to receive their new passwords. The Premier’s Reading Challenge administration has reset all passwords for students at independent schools for 2025. Accounts will not be accessible until the official start date last Monday 24 February.

How to Receive Your New Password

You can collect your new password in one of two ways:

  • Visit the Resource Centre before or after school or during lunchtimes, with your diary. The Library Team will record your username and new password.
  • A parent or guardian can email Library@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au to sign up and receive a username and password.

If Your Child is New to the Challenge

They can join by:

  • Contacting the library staff via Library@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au.
  • Informing the library staff during their library lesson.
  • Asking their teacher to write a note in their diary, which will be passed on to the Library Staff.

Once student passwords have been received, we will communicate these via your child’s diary or email. If you would like to start selecting books for your child to read for the challenge, please explore the recommended booklists on the Premier’s Reading Challenge website: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html
