Principal's Message

From the Principal

Dear families of Our Lady Star of the Sea,

On Wednesday we celebrate the feast of St Joseph. St Joseph means so much to the Sisters of St Joseph of Orange and to honour that connection, our Mass yesterday was in memory of this special feast day.

The above prayer is our school prayer and was created by the sisters, who still pray this prayer. It has been adapted by us here at Our Lady Star of the Sea. The sisters were delighted to know that this is our school prayer.

Yesterday, we gathered not only to honour the presence of Sr Mary Beth, Sr Marian and Sr Kit but to recognise the profound legacy the Sisters of St Joseph of Orange have left within our community. For years, their unwavering faith, dedication to education, and commitment to serving others shaped the very foundations of our parish and school. From a very basic start here at Our Lady Star of the Sea with not enough desks for each student, limited resources and the dual use of the ‘army hut’ as a school during the week and a church on Sunday, their dream has brought us to where we are today. The seeds of compassion, wisdom, love, unity, reconciliation and community that they have sown continue to flourish in the hearts and minds of those who have walked these grounds — and will continue to do so for generations to come.

We are deeply grateful for their presence this week, a reflection of their enduring spirit of giving. Their legacy is not simply a part of our past — it is a living presence in our community, inspiring us to walk forward with the same faith and compassion that they have always shown.

Thank you to everyone that made the day so special for our students, staff and the sisters. I really don't want to call anyone out because there was so much giving from everyone involved. However, the community spirit that the sisters dreamt of all of those years ago was very evident yesterday. The seed they planted in 1952 is alive and well.

Parent Charter

I have linked the newly released 2025 SCS Parent Charter as an important document that helps establish the foundations that promote positive relationships within the school community.

Working Together

Parents should not approach other students or parents to clarify any issues or concerns. All matters should be discussed with the appropriate teacher who can then discuss the matter with the relevant staff and students.

Friendly Reminder

It has come to our attention that some parents and carers may be parking in our neighbours car parks and marked spaces.

We do understand that parking may be difficult at times but we kindly ask that you refrain from parking in a business car park or residents parking area, including The Salvation Army carpark.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this.

Harmony Week Celebrations

Next week our school community will acknowledge and celebrate our rich cultural diversity as Australians. Throughout this week the students will participate in a range of activities, in class, led by the SRC.

On Friday 21st March we ask that all students come to school dressed in FULL SPORT UNIFORM with ‘a touch of orange’. This could include orange socks, hat, scarf, ribbon etc. Parents and carers are invited to our Friday morning assembly, where the SRC will speak about Harmony Week.

God Bless,

Mrs Maria Rose
