NAPLAN
Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN 2025
Dear Year 3 and Year 5 Parents and Caregivers,
We would like to inform you the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for students in Year 3 and Year 5 will be held from Wednesday 12th March to Friday 14th March.
NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents/carers, teachers and principals and can be used to improve student achievement.
NAPLAN tests are delivered in an online format. Aside from the Year 3 Writing test, which is completed on paper, all other NAPLAN tests are delivered in an online format.
This delivers many benefits including:
- a ‘tailored test’ design that adapts to correct and incorrect student responses providing a more precise understanding of student achievement;
- innovative use of technology, including a more engaging test design and a wider range of item types;
- an extended and more flexible test window, allowing schools greater opportunity to schedule the tests at times that suit them best and increasing student participation.
Please ensure that your child gets adequate rest and arrives at school on time during this period. We encourage students to do their best but also remind them that NAPLAN is just one way of assessing learning.
NAPLAN assessment schedule:
- Wednesday 12th March: Year 3 and Year 5 Writing assessment
- Thursday 13th March: Year 3 and Year 5 Reading & Conventions of Language assessments
- Friday 14th March: Year 3 and Year 5 Numeracy assessment
Please note if your child is absent on these days, there is an opportunity to take a catch-up test. Catch-up tests can be held until the end of the test window (Monday 24th March), except for Year 3 writing catch-up tests, which must conclude by Monday 17th March.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s classroom teacher.
Thank you for your support.
