Year 3&4

This fortnight, our Year 3 and 4 students have learned that as our planet spins on its axis, different parts of the world experience daylight while others are in darkness. Building on this learning, they have begun planning a scientific investigation to observe how shadows change in length and direction throughout the day. By tracking these changes, students will discover that the Sun’s apparent movement across the sky is actually caused by Earth’s rotation, providing clear evidence that our planet spins on its axis.

Year 5&6

Over the last two weeks, our Year 5 and 6 students took a hands-on approach to learning about the movement of planets in our solar system. Through role-playing activities, they acted out how planets rotate on their axes and orbit around the Sun, bringing these complex scientific concepts to life in a fun and interactive way.

To further their understanding, students also created a scaled model of the solar system outside. By carefully measuring and placing each planet at a proportional distance from the Sun, they gained a real sense of just how vast our solar system truly is.
