Principal's Report

There is a place for everyone at Beaumaris — and at Beaumaris, everyone can find their place in the world.

As Term 3 continues, there is much to celebrate across our college community. From recognising outstanding academic achievement and supporting our Year 12 students to preparing for the opening of our college production, there are many ways our students continue to learn, grow and contribute to life at Beaumaris.

High Achievers’ Breakfasts

We were delighted to recognise and celebrate the students who demonstrated excellence in their academic performance during Semester 1. Last week, those who ranked in the top 5% of their year level for Semester 1 were invited, along with their parents, to High Achievers' Breakfasts in the MCC Pavilion.

While we celebrate the results and achievements of these students, it is also important to recognise the many moments behind those achievements – showing up, working hard, trying again, overcoming mistakes and continually striving to do their best.

We extend our congratulations to the High Achievers, pictured on our website and listed below, and sincerely thank Deb Kirk, Josh Slocum and Nel Els for organising this special event.

A copy of my address is attached for families who may wish to read it in full.

Bullying No Way: National Week of Action

This week, we recognise Bullying No Way: National Week of Action, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for every student. This year’s theme, ‘Small Acts, Big Impact’, highlights how everyday actions – including kindness, inclusion, speaking up and looking out for others – can make a meaningful difference to our school community.

These values have been reflected through our Bigger Buddy System, with Year 7 and Year 10 students recently creating a Friendship Tree featuring their own messages about friendship, kindness, trust and supporting one another.

Students are reminded that they can confidentially report bullying they experience or witness through the Report Bullying form, available via the Star/Favourite icon on Compass. Families can also access the Bully Stoppers and Safe Socials resources for further information and support.

Year 12 Lunch with the Principal

It was a pleasure to spend time with our Year 12 Beckett House students over lunch this week. These informal gatherings provide a valuable opportunity to step away from the demands of Year 12, connect with one another and enjoy relaxed conversations. Over the coming weeks, students from each House will have the opportunity to join me for lunch, and I look forward to continuing these conversations as they prepare for the final months of their secondary schooling.

Year 11 VCE VM Community Connections & Beauy Fertiliser Project

Our Year 11 VCE Vocational Major students have continued to build connections with local older adults through their Community Connections program. During a recent session, learning went both ways as community members shared skills including sign language, knitting, sewing and the use of emergency apps for independent living, while students shared their knowledge of AI and photo restoration, boxing, guitar and manicures.

Students have also continued their Beauy Fertiliser community enterprise project, transforming food scraps from our school kitchen into fertiliser. After using MapQuest to plan an efficient delivery route for locally purchased orders, students gifted samples to the older adults participating in Community Connections. The project has now sold 31 bags, providing authentic learning in sustainability, teamwork, planning, problem-solving and customer service.

College Production – Rock of Ages

It is always exciting to see months of hard work come together, and tonight our students take to the stage for the opening night of Rock of Ages: Teen Edition. Productions such as these are a wonderful celebration of creativity, collaboration and student talent. My thanks go to our dedicated staff, cast, crew and musicians for the enormous effort they have invested, and I wish everyone involved every success for the performances ahead.

I encourage members of our school community to come along and support our students as they showcase their incredible talents on stage.

2026 Parent / Carer Opinion Survey

We value the feedback of our families and encourage all parents and carers to participate in this year's Department of Education Parent / Carer Opinion Survey. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey is available from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September. Access details, including a personalised PIN, were sent to families via Compass on Monday 17 August. The survey only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

Progress Reports

Progress Reports were made available to families on Friday 14 August. I encourage both students and parents to review these reports carefully together, celebrate progress, identify areas for growth and set goals for the remainder of the semester.

Finally, I look forward to seeing plenty of House spirit on display on Monday for our annual Beauy Bake Off. Students, it's time to get baking!
