National Tree Day

Celebrating 30 Years of National Tree Day  

National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day make up Australia’s biggest community nature protection event.  

We had two events on Wednesday 22 July, one was planting a tree to celebrate the school centenary and the other to create a grassland meadow and forest understorey. 

The grassland meadow and forest understorey were possible due to the support of Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary (La Trobe University) and Green By Nature who provided donations of indigenous plants and nest boxes. The school also supplemented the planting by purchasing plants from the Sanctuary. 

Students from year 11 Environmental Science, two year 10 science classes and 7F planted out the grassland meadow and forest understorey in the garden beds to the west of the Hub. They planted and watered about 250 plants. 

For the second event our school captains and principal teamed up with Trav fromTrav’s Tree Service to plant a larger tree to mark the school centenary and National Tree Day. 

Both these activities were a fantastic hands‑on moment, and we were proud to be a part of this event in its 30th year.   

Plants provide a lot for us — from cleaning our air to creating habitat for wildlife, cooling our school space, all while keeping our environment healthy for future generations.  

A huge thank‑you to Trav’s Tree Service, Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary and Green By Nature for partnering with us to make a lasting, leafy impact!
