Love Bites - NAPCAN
NAPCAN’s (National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect) highly regarded Love Bites Senior and Love Bites Junior programs have been running in schools since 2005. The interactive and engaging sessions focus on the development of respectful relationships for young people aged 11 to 17.
Northcote High’s Year 10 cohort will be engaging in the Love Bites Senior program in the first half of Term 3. This program will provide a safe environment to cover topics such as:
- Understanding & building respectful relationships
- How gender stereotypes affect respectful relationships
- Abuse in relationships
- Relationships, sex & consent
Speaking out & supporting others
We acknowledge that each student comes to the Love Bites program with their own unique life experiences. This contributes to the way they perceive various types of information. All the program's content, including that which may be emotionally challenging, has been intentionally curated to achieve the learning objectives of our respectful relationship’s education program. During the sessions, young people are introduced to several services in the community and encouraged to support their friends by utilising safe, healthy, and proactive strategies.
Love Bites Senior will run as a whole day program. The facilitators for the Love Bites program include Northcote High School trained teaching and Wellbeing staff, Department of Education Secondary School Nurses and Practitioners from Berry Street. If required, young people can be supported by the NHS Student Services Wellbeing Team prior to, during or following the sessions.

Paul Dillon (DARTA) Visits Northcote High School
On Tuesday 11 August, Northcote High School is pleased to welcome Paul Dillon, founder of Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia (DARTA), to present to our Year 10, 11 and 12 students.
Paul is one of Australia's leading experts in drug and alcohol education and has spent almost 30 years working with schools, families and young people.
His presentations provide practical, evidence-based information that helps students make informed decisions, challenge common myths and better understand topics such as alcohol, vaping, cannabis, risk-taking and looking after their friends.
Each year level will participate in a presentation tailored to their stage of learning, with sessions designed to promote informed decision-making, resilience and help-seeking. Paul's engaging and non-judgemental approach encourages students to think critically about the choices they make and the importance of keeping themselves and their peers safe.
We look forward to welcoming Paul to Northcote High School for what promises to be an informative and valuable learning experience.
