Message from the Principal

Edition 11 2026

Dear CNPS Families

Welcome back to Carlton North Primary School for Term 3 2026. As we begin our second semester, I know we will continue the strong focus on learning and wellbeing and importantly, having fun together. This term has already commenced with some exciting adventures, with both our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 students attending camp. A big thank you to the amazing and professional staff at CNPS who ensured the students had a positive camp experience. One of the great attributes of the students at CNPS is they always try their best, are kind to each other, and enjoy every day at school. Teachers and Education Support staff are looking forward to the semester ahead and supporting all students to achieve their optimum in learning and wellbeing.

Capital Works Update

Earlier this term I wrote an update to the community regarding the new school hall. Unfortunately, there has been a further delay to the project's completion. During the school holidays, CNPS was advised that CitiPower had identified additional obstacles in connecting the new electricity kiosk to the main power supply along Canning Street. As a result, the hall cannot be handed over to the school until the power connection has been completed. At this stage, we have been advised that the electricity kiosk is unlikely to be operational until sometime in September. While this is disappointing news for our school community, we appreciate your continued patience and understanding as the remaining works are completed.

Year Level Newsletters

Don’t miss the termly year level newsletters that were posted on Compass on Friday (24 July 2026) in Week 2. These documents provide parents/carers an overview of the learning and wellbeing focus that will occur throughout the term. If you have any questions, please make contact with classroom or specialist teachers.

Kinect2Dance

The new dance program has started at our school, bringing great enthusiasm and fun for all students. Everyone is enjoying the opportunity to participate, learn new skills, and express themselves through dance. The students of CNPS look forward to presenting the Showcase later this tern.

Reminder - Foundation – Year 2 – Accessing Classrooms in the Morning

The soft start for F-2 classrooms is now permanently in place. Classrooms will open from 8.55am with members of the teaching team present to commence supervision. The soft start supports all students to be in the classroom and ready to commence the day of learning promptly at 9am. A reminder to students and parents/carers that access the buildings/classrooms begins at 8.55am (F-2) and 9am for Year 3-6 students. This expectation is in place as supervision begins at the times outlined above. On-site supervision commences at 8.45am each school day.

Attendance

Regular attendance at school is essential to support the learning, wellbeing and safety of children and young people. CNPS works hard to support student attendance. Recording accurate attendance of students on a daily basis is essential. A reminder to the community that school starts promptly each day at 9am. Supervision of students on-site at CNPS commences at 8.45am each school day.

Stay Well This Winter

There is an increased risk of respiratory illness during the winter months.

How to reduce the spread of respiratory illness

Flu and RSV vaccinations

The flu can be serious, especially for children. Everyone aged 6 months and older should get the annual flu vaccine.

RSV is the leading cause of infant hospitalisation in Australia. Vaccination during pregnancy helps protect newborns by passing on antibodies. This reduces the risk of severe RSV illness in infants aged under 6 months by about 70%.

The vaccine can safely be given at the same time as other vaccines recommended in pregnancy. These include flu, whooping cough, and COVID-19 vaccines.

School community members can speak with their usual healthcare provider to see if this is right for them.

DonateLife Week

DonateLife Week started on Sunday 26 July and runs until Sunday 2 August 2026.  It is a public awareness week encouraging more Australians to support organ and tissue donation.   Anyone in Australia aged 16 and over can register on the Australian Organ Donor Register to be an organ and tissue donor. It only takes one minute to register. Organ and tissue donation can save and change the lives of people who, in many cases, are seriously ill or dying. To read stories of people who have received donations, refer to Donation stories on the DonateLife website.

School – Home Partnership

The hallmark of a strong school-home partnership is open and respectful dialogue, that embodies the school values.  Please feel free to reach out to Erin, Jane, Trish or I should you have any questions or queries.

Warm Regards
