Our Staff

Farewell Maicey!!

We bid farewell to our beautiful Maicey today - a familiar face and a source of comfort for our students. We will miss your loving presence around the college from your cheeky personality (drinking water from the fountain!) to your patient, gentle soul. You have made just as much if an impact on our students as their teachers have.

When it comes to impressive statistics, St Anne’s College teacher Georgia O’Hara

(formerly Georgia Sofra) is in a class of less than one per cent of all Australian educators.

Having recently gained her ‘Lead Teacher’ certification through the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), Georgia has joined an elite group of teachers nationwide.

Less than one per cent of teachers in Australia are Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher accredited, with the Lead certification being the highest level of accreditation.

Georgia, who began her teaching career just six year’s ago, embarked on a rigorous yearlong journey to complete the certification which involved two stages.

“During the first stage I was required to provide evidence for all 37 Australian Professional Teaching Standards,” she said.

“This was followed by the second stage when external assessors came to St Anne’s College to interview referees and watch my teaching practice in person.”

According to AITSL, nationally certified Highly Accomplished and Lead teachers are expert and skilled practitioners who use their knowledge of teaching and learning to create engaging learning environments for their learners.

They focus on improving outcomes for learners and consistently strive to improve their practice to ensure they are maximising these outcomes.

Nationally certified teachers also support and lead their colleagues to improve their practice and the outcomes for their learners. In doing this, they help to lift the quality of teaching and improve learning outcomes across and beyond their schools and early childhood settings.

“It has been a great opportunity to push myself to learn more, be better and reassure myself of my ability,” Georgia said.

“It has given me more confidence both in front of the classroom and in my leadership role.

“I feel lucky and grateful that St Anne's and Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools (MACS) have supported me to chase this professional dream.”

Principal Anthony Butts said St Anne’s College was very proud of Georgia for gaining the certification, ensuring students and staff have access to the best possible learning outcomes.

“The benefits of the national teacher certification are far-reaching and include positively influencing teachers, parents/carers, school leaders and, most importantly, students,” he said.

“We are very fortunate to have passionate and dedicated staff, like Georgia, at St Anne’s College to provide a quality education to our students.”

Final Day Fun: Teachers Who Understood the Assignment

What's wrong with this picture?! Our teachers took part in some role reversal on the student's final day of term. While students dressed in casual clothes, our teachers looked the part!!
