News from the Library

Only three weeks until the end of the school year! With students entering the final phases of assessment, over the last couple of weeks the Library big screen TV has been displaying a variety of fun engaging videos such as soap box racing, dog agility, and Lego stop motion videos. For many students, stopping by and watching for a few minutes has been a great way to connect with their peers and have a bit of fun.
Remember to Return ALL Library Loans
All items must be returned to the Library by the end of week 9 unless a summer extension has been arranged with a Library staff member. Students are encouraged to borrow books for the holiday period and to enter the Summer Reading Challenge when they return in 2026. The Library Summer Reading display with books recommended by students might be a great place to find a new favourite read!
Library Closure
The Library will be closed to students in the last two weeks of school to undertake the end of year stocktake. Students attending school during Activities Week and Week 11 will be unable to access the Library before and after school and during lunchtime.
In the News this Fortnight
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) have found themselves in the news for all the wrong reasons recently. If you, like me, miss the old website you can still access it here. Predicting the weather is complex, bringing together data from many sources. You can watch a quick summary of what happens at the BoM here, put together by the BtN team. The Library has several books available to teach you about weather and how to interpret your observations, including:
The complete book of Australian weather (Natural World – Climate 551.6 WHI)
30-second meteorology : the 50 most significant events and phenomena, each explained in half a minute (Natural World – Climate 551.5 THI)
Cloud atlas : everything you need to know about clouds (Natural World – Climate 551.57 ZAM)
Wind atlas : everything you need to know about the wind (Natural World – Climate 551.51 ZAM)
A quick note that November 19th was World Toilet Day. It is a day to recognise the importance of safe sanitation and recognising that not everyone in the world has access to sanitation and clean water supplies. The BBC podcast 50 Things That Made the Modern Economy has an engaging 10 minute episode on the S-Bend “a bit of pipe with a curve in it (that) became the missing ingredient to create the flushing toilet – and, with it, public sanitation as we know it”. You can listen to it on most podcast platforms, or via the BBC webpage
