Visual Art

Foundation
Foundation students have been busily expanding their imaginative artworks. They are adding new drawings to their artist books that show special places and creatures from their make-believe worlds. Alongside this, they have begun learning the first skills of working with clay and are painting their dried pieces. Next week, they will glue any parts that have fallen off and begin strengthening their unfired clay creations. All the clay works will break very easily so the students have been talking about the ‘experience’ of the activity as being more important.
Year 1
Year 1 students continue to develop their imaginative books, adding richer detail and colour to their drawings. They are thinking carefully about how stories and family can be represented through symbols and settings. Their clay explorations are helping them use form and texture to complement their drawing projects. All the clay works will break very easily so the students have been talking about the ‘experience’ of the activity as being more important than the product.
Year 2
Year 2 students are refining their drawings and experimenting with ways to show texture, and space within their imaginative books. As they work with clay, they are learning hand-building techniques that bring their creative ideas to life in three dimensions. All the clay works will break very easily so the students have been talking about the ‘experience’ of using clay as being more important than the product itself.
Year3
Year 3 students are adding personality, and style to their imaginative designs using a range of drawing materials. The experience of their clay projects are encouraging them to think about new ideas for landscapes, and creatures. All the clay works will break very easily so the students have been talking about the ‘experience’ of using clay as being more important than the product itself.
Year 4
Year 4 students are developing their artist books further and exploring how clay can represent aspects of their stories. They are showing growing confidence in combining drawing, sculpture, and creative problem-solving. All the clay works will break very easily so the students have been talking about the ‘experience’ of using clay as being more important than the product itself.
Year 5
Year 5 students are immersed in refining their imaginative books. Alongside their mixed-media drawings, they are experimenting with clay to add tactile, sculptural elements to their work. They continue to explore how texture and form can express meaning, atmosphere, and emotion. All the clay works will break very easily so the students have been talking about the ‘experience’ of using clay as being more important than the product itself.
Year 6
Over the past fortnight, Year 6 students have been busy putting the finishing touches on their artist books and designing their final book covers. They have also begun creating special artwork for their upcoming graduation—an exciting milestone that has filled the art room with energy and pride.
