During Reading, students explored poetry, rhymes, and chants. They practised identifying rhyming words to complete chants and enthusiastically took part in whole-class performances. Writing

In Writing, students focused on the important skills of editing and rereading their work. They learned a variety of strategies to improve their writing, such as checking for capital letters, punctuation, spacing between words, correct letter formation, and accurate spelling. Through guided practice, students developed an understanding of why editing and reviewing their work is an important part of writing. They also discovered how rereading their writing helps them identify mistakes and recognise how editing can significantly improve the quality of their sentences.

Maths

In Maths, Foundation Cohort have been learning about the days of the week. Students focused on naming the days in order and identifying today, yesterday, and tomorrow. The Foundation cohort created their own rainbow to match the seven colours with the seven days of the week. Students have been sharing activities they do on certain days of the week.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students read the story The Magic Lunch Box to learn about healthy and unhealthy foods and how to create a balanced lunch. They discussed which foods are “everyday foods” that help our bodies grow strong and which are “sometimes foods” to enjoy sometimes. Students then used playdough to make mini models of foods they would pack in their own lunch boxes, carefully choosing items from each food group to create a colourful, well-balanced meal.

Social and Emotional Learning

In Social and Emotional Learning this week, Foundation students learned how to keep themselves and others safe by showing kindness, respect and responsibility. They talked about why people keep their hands and feet to themselves, how clothes help protect their bodies, and what it means to respect personal space, like giving each other a comfortable bubble when sitting or playing. Through stories, class discussions and role play, students practised using kind words, gentle actions and safe choices in different situations. They were also introduced to the NO GO TELL strategy, learning to say no if something does not feel right, to go to a safer place and to tell a trusted adult. Students then played simple cooperative games where they could show these behaviours and support their classmates.

Auslan

This fortnight in Auslan, Foundation students began exploring HOLM (handshape, orientation, location, movement), and NMF (Non-manual features) as they learned the importance of facial expressions and body language when signing. Students learned about different handshapes and positions when directing with their fingers and palm. The Foundation cohort also learned how to sign their feelings. Students used facial expressions to match their feelings as they signed ‘worried’, ‘confused’, and ‘smiley’.

Special Event - Remembrance Day

This fortnight, the Foundation students participated in a moment of silence in honour of Remembrance Day. In class, students discussed their heroes and the characteristics that identify them as heroes. The Foundation cohort created poppies and placed them on a large background to represent a field of poppies. Students also engaged in a short poem, Poppy Poppy, as they learned about the importance of Remembrance Day and what poppies signify.
