LOTE

This year has been an exciting and rewarding one for the Greek LOTE Department, marked by meaningful learning experiences and initiatives that brought students together through language, culture, and creativity. As we approach the end of the academic year, we are delighted to celebrate the wonderful activities that have taken place over the past few weeks, events that showcase our students’ talents, creativity, and strong connection to the Hellenic culture.
Students across Junior and Middle School were given a wonderful opportunity to participate in the “Christmas All Around!” drawing competition, organised by ANTENNA Pacific. This initiative offered our young learners a creative platform to celebrate the festive season through art. By expressing the joy and deeper meaning of Christmas in their own unique way, students produced vibrant and imaginative works that showcased their artistic talents. All submitted artworks will be presented in television programs dedicated to the competition and featured in ANTENNA Channel’s holiday programming across several countries. In addition to their artwork, Junior School students have also prepared video messages with Christmas songs and festive wishes, which will be broadcast on the same channel, further extending their voices and creativity to the wider Hellenic community.
Another significant moment for our department was the visit of selected Year 5 students to various Aged Care Facilities, including Baptcare Southaven Day Centre, Brimlea Aged Care, Fronditha, Estia Health, and Oak Towers Aged Care. Students performed Greek songs and traditional Christmas carols from different regions of Greece, filling each space with warmth, music, and heartfelt joy. It was an emotional and deeply touching excursion, not only for the residents, many of whom were moved to tears, but also for our students, who experienced firsthand the power of compassion, connection, and cultural sharing across generations.
As we close this memorable year, we extend our warmest congratulations to all students who achieved success in Greek and embraced the opportunity to learn not only the language, but also the rich culture and heritage it carries. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and pride continue to inspire our school community and strengthen the legacy of Hellenic learning at Oakleigh Grammar.
