Maths Incursion
Our Year 7 students enjoyed an interactive maths incursion delivered by World of Maths. The engaging session, led by instructor Sam Martin, kept students focused and motivated from start to finish. Hidden within each fun and interactive activity were rich and complex mathematical problems, allowing students to explore concepts through guided discovery. Throughout the incursion, students uncovered number patterns and sequences, identified geometric properties, interpreted graphs and statistics, explored chance data, applied measurement skills, and much more. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to see how mathematics comes alive in the real world.
“People in my group were Charlee, Ella, Maansi and I. The math event was interesting and fun. The games I enjoyed the most was the mirror reflecting game, the one where you drop a disk and the balancing game.” Pshiajara Labaya (BP2)
Maths Boot Camp at St Norbert College
Our Mathematics Department recently hosted an engaging Maths Boot Camp for Year 6 students, giving them a fun and hands-on preview of the exciting learning awaiting them in Year 7. Alongside the student program, we also ran a Maths Workshop for parents and grandparents, outlining the Year 7 curriculum, assessment structure, and expectations.Families were given an insight into how teachers effectively use OneNote to support learning, organise resources, and enhance classroom engagement. We also discussed helpful study habits and the importance of regular homework completion to ensure a smooth transition into secondary school.
We look forward to welcoming our new Year 7 cohort next year as they begin their mathematical journey with confidence.
Student thoughts….
Our experience at St Norbert’s mathematics boot camp was very helpful and exciting because we got to meet new people and learn new things. Some things we learnt with Ms Lim as naming the sides of a right-angled triangle in preparation for Trigonometry and Algebra. We highly recommend the mathematics bootcamp at St Norbert College because you can get one step ahead in preparation for Year 7 and meet new people. Some fun things we did include maths games and the teachers were very nice and inclusive and so were the people that attended. I did not know many people in my class but they all made feel welcome.

Maths boot camp was fun even without my friends. Learning Algebra and starting to learn Trigonometry was surprising but would be helpful in high school. Starting boot camp was scary, but it was the opposite and it was fun and enjoyable. Year 9 helpers came to help every lesson and I even met my sister’s friend. Maths boot camp was overall a wonderful experience to get used to Year 7 high school Maths. I enjoyed the maths game 7UP.

Our Boot Camp experience was fun and enjoyable with our friends and Ms Lim to teach us. If we did not understand concepts, Ms Lim would teach us step by step. We learnt prime numbers and had to recite them before we slept (we didn’t). We also learnt the basic concepts in Algebra as we requested Ms Lim to teach it. We were also taught sides of a right-angled triangle in preparation for the Year 9 concept Trigonometry. We highly recommend Year 6 boot Camp for every student coming into Year 7. Overall, we had an enjoyable and fun experience at Year 6 St Norbert’s Boot Camp

My Boot Camp experience was a wonderful time, at first, I was bit scared but after I went with my friends. I felt more comfortable that my teacher was Ms Lim and she is one of my favourites. Ms Lim teaches us step by step. She taught us basic algebra, Trigonometry and Prime numbers. To make it more interesting we were taught to play the maths game 7UP. Ms Lim taught us the basic maths concepts required for Year 7. Overall, I think this experience was amazing and I learnt a bit from other students in this class.
