Stage 3 STEM LEGO Transition Project

Stage 3 recently completed an exciting STEM partnership with Year 7 students from O’Connor Catholic College as part of a UNE research project on how STEM learning supports the transition to high school.

The project began with Year 7 visiting our school to introduce themselves and mentor our students in programming mBot2 robots. The following term, the roles were reversed—our Stage 3 students proudly taught the Year 7s how to build and program LEGO Spike Prime robots, stepping into leadership and communication roles.

This term, we travelled to O’Connor for a final celebration of the project. Students were interviewed about what they learned, how they solved challenges, and how they handled disagreements during group tasks. Many Stage 3 students shared that the project improved their teamwork and confidence—and even helped answer some of their questions about high school.

We are very proud of the way Stage 3 represented our school throughout this project. Thank you to O’Connor Catholic College and UNE for providing such a valuable and memorable learning experience.
