Reflective Practice for Parents

Reflective practice for parents involves pausing to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, & reactions during interactions with your children. This practice encourages parents to consider their child's perspective & emotional state before responding. It's a mindful & intentional approach that can lead to deeper connections & better understanding with their children.

Parents can incorporate reflective practice into their daily lives by practicing self-awareness, empathy, & thoughtful responses to their children's behaviors & needs. This practice not only benefits parents but also fosters better emotional regulation skills & secure attachments in their children.

Reflective questions to ask yourself: (about the experience you want to reflect on)

  • What did I learn?
  • What do I need to learn more about?
  • Why did I feel the way I did?
  • What was easy?
  • What went well?
  • What was difficult?
  • What went badly?
  • How can I improve in the future?
  • I wonder what would happen if?
