Basketball

As we head into Round 5 of the ISA this weekend, I want to take a chance to celebrate the successes of last weekend. It was another exciting week of basketball with some fantastic performances across all year groups.

  • Year 7/8 Internal Matches delivered another nail-biting finishes, with Blue edging out Red 30–28 and Gold taking a close 27–26 win over Green. Special mention to Sid Rana, Paul Ticli, and Stuart Spedding for consistent efforts across multiple games.

  • In the ISA competition, 13A had a dominant win over St Stanislaus’ (63–38), led by SPX students due to a time clash with the 1st V game, while 14A also impressed with a strong 47–28 victory.

  • Our senior teams shone with 17A defeating St Stanislaus’ 47–36 and 17B securing a 30–27 win against Central Coast Grammar, thanks to a standout contribution from Zac Troughton.

  • The 3rd V and 4th V teams also recorded solid wins, with Jack Cook and Enrico Basso steering 3rd V to a 36–22 victory and the entire 4th V working as a strong unit to secure a commanding 39–9 result.

Not every game ended in a win, but there were some exceptional efforts worth celebrating:

  • 15C lost by just one point (35–36) to St Spyridon, led by Old Boy, Sam Cooper. Finn Baker and Alex Tsakiris steered their team to within a point of victory.

  • 5th V fought hard for a 28–28 draw against Redlands, led Old Boy Dantae Raic the entire team fort hard for this draw and we very unlucky not to secure the win in the dying moments.

Bathurst Trip Success

Our Bathurst trip was a fantastic success, with the boys securing three great wins on the road and representing SPX with pride. A huge thank you to the dedicated staff and the families who supported our students throughout the day your efforts made this experience memorable and rewarding for everyone involved.

ISA Code of Conduct Reminder

As we enjoy these competitive moments, please remember that our behaviour on the sidelines and on the court reflects our SPX values. Respect for referees, opposition players, coaches, staff, and parents is essential.

The ISA Code of Conduct isn’t just about the game, it shapes the experience for our current students and sets the tone for future players and their families. Every interaction matters, and positive conduct ensures that sport remains a space for growth, teamwork, and enjoyment for everyone involved.

Thank you to all players, coaches, and supporters for continuing to uphold these standards.

Uniform Reminder

  • All Basketball players need to ensure that have the correct SPX singlet and shorts. These can be purchased from the College Uniform Shop.

  • Coaches will not allow players on the court if they are in the incorrect uniform.

  • No casual clothing or crocs are permitted to be worn to and from games. Only SPX branded clothing and/or playing uniform.

  • Internal Squad players have been issued a coloured shirt for the season.

Oliver Freeman 166 - 1st XI vs Oxley College

Saturday 15 November 2025 – ISA Round 4

1st XI 10/273 (Ollie Freeman 166, Charlie Chippendale 23) defeated Oxley College 10/98 (Oliver Costain 2/0, Charlie Chippendale 2/19, Alex Burke 2/33, Dan Carrol 1/3, Brody Mendel 1/34) at Oxley College Bowral

Winning the toss and electing to bat the 1st XI withstood some accurate bowling early. With the score at 2/34 (Rohan Chang 19) saw captain Ollie Freeman and Viaan Singh bat positively putting on 50 for the third wicket. Rory Rapa (16) played his shots and ably supported Ollie Freeman who was scoring quickly. A dynamic 23 by Charlie Chippendale paved the way for a large total. Captain Ollie Freeman batted in complete control and powered past 100 to 150 with some hard hitting and deft placement. Finally falling for an outstanding 166 off 125 balls. Miles Moran chipped in with 13 at the end of the inning for an impressive total of 273.

A superb run-out by Rory Rapa and some fast bowling by Charlie Chippendale (2/19) and Jack English (0/6) had Oxley reeling at 3/8. Oliver Costain stopped a fighting comeback with a great outfield catch and then followed up with accurate good length bowling to secure 2 wickets for no runs. Alex Burke (2/33) and Brody Mendel (1/34) combined for 20 overs of spin and a run out.  Dan Carroll (1/3) taking the final wicket by hitting the stumps in the 33rd over.

2nd XI 10/90 (Henry Garder 45, Edward Stearn 16) defeated St Patrick's, bowling them out for 47 (Thomas Costain 3/6, Oscar Clubbe 2/4) at Oxford Falls #1

Returning back to Oxford Falls for Round 4 of the ISA Season. The 2nds faced their rivals, St Patrick's in a very low scoring game. The 2nd XI won the toss and chose the bat. The 2nds didn’t get off to a great start losing quick wickets, but with an outstanding performance from Henry Gardner scoring half of the total runs gave the seconds something to defend. St Pat's came out thinking it would be a walk in the park but tight bowling from the 2nds proved them wrong. Lucas Gleeson (c), Oscar Clubbe and Thomas Costain came into bowl and bowled 16 maidens all together and took 7 wickets. With a superb fielding performance, Pius won the game bowling out St Pat's for a score of 47.
