Social media age restrictions explained – a guide for parents and carers

As advised in previous Woodchattas, most parents would be aware that from 10 December 2025, certain social media platforms won’t be allowed to let Australian children under 16 create or keep an account.

What you need to know:

  • The age restrictions are likely to apply to InstagramFacebookSnapchatTikTokX and YouTube, among other platforms.
  • Most online gaming and standalone messaging apps are among the types of services that will not be included.

  • Children under 16 will still be able to see publicly available social media content that doesn’t require logging into an account.

Find out more at  eSafety’s social media age restrictions hub. If you can't join our free webinar, they are also developing video guides for parents and carers about the upcoming social media changes for those under 16.

Ending the School Year with Pride at St Pius X

As we approach the conclusion of another successful school year, it is important that we finish strongly by upholding the values and standards that define our community.

  • Appropriate Behaviour: Every student is encouraged to demonstrate maturity and responsibility. Respect for teachers, peers, and the wider school environment ensures that the final weeks are positive and memorable.

  • Correct Uniform: Wearing the school uniform neatly and with pride reflects our shared identity. A tidy appearance shows commitment to the traditions of St Pius X and sets the tone for excellence.

  • Hair Standards: Maintaining the correct haircut is part of presenting oneself respectfully. It demonstrates discipline and consideration for the expectations of our school.

  • Respect for All: Above all, kindness and respect should guide every interaction. By treating others with dignity, students contribute to a safe and supportive environment where everyone can celebrate the year’s achievements.

Ending the year well is not just about following rules, it’s about showing gratitude for the opportunities we’ve had and preparing ourselves for the challenges ahead. Let’s ensure that the final chapter of this school year reflects the best of St Pius X.

Movember mid-month update

Throughout November, a number of our staff and students have been proudly taking part in Movember, growing their mo’s and moving for a cause that supports men’s health, mental health, and suicide prevention. It has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm across the College as participants embrace the challenge and raise awareness in our community.

Thanks to the generosity of students, families and staff, we have so far raised $355. This is a great start, and with two weeks left in the month, we are hoping to build on this momentum and make an even bigger impact.

If you would like to support the team, donations can be made via our Movember page: https://au.movember.com/donate/details?teamId=2280255#amount

Thank you for your ongoing support of this important initiative.
