Japan Excursion

Year 10 Japanese Cultural Excursion

On Tuesday 12 May, the Year 10 Japanese class went on an engaging excursion to various locations in Melbourne city. This excursion provided us with an exciting opportunity to experience different aspects of Japanese culture, daily life, and cuisine across Melbourne. We were able to participate in a range of interactive and educational activities and workshops that helped extend our classroom learning into real-life experiences.

We began at the National Gallery of Victoria, where we attended a workshop exploring elements of Japanese art and culture, including fashion and design. Through interactive activities and discussions, such as designing a screen for a friend, we were able to develop a deeper understanding of Japanese artistic traditions and the ways culture can be expressed through art.

Following the workshop at the NGV, we travelled to the Consulate-General of Japan, where we attended an educational seminar on Japanese cuisine and culture. Through engaging activities, such as looking at hyper-realistic food models, we were able to apply classroom vocabulary to real-world contexts.

The presentation also provided insight into what living in Japan could look like, with real anecdotes from the presenter.

The final part of the excursion took place at Dohtonbori Restaurant, where we experienced a popular style of Japanese dining by cooking our own selected meals on a hotplate. We were able to enjoy an interactive and delicious lunch while immersing ourselves in Japanese culture.

Overall, the excursion was both educational and engaging, giving us valuable cultural insights and memorable hands-on experiences.
