Regional Volleyball Intermediate
On Monday 4 May, the intermediate girls’ volleyball team went to regionals. The competition kicked off with a strong start. In the opening match, our defense held firm, and our attack was especially strong, with powerful and well-placed hits putting constant pressure on our opponents. We won 2–0, boosting the team’s energy and a good start to the day.
The second match, however, proved to be much tighter. From the get-go the scores were close, and the rallies only got longer. Each set was decided by only a few points, with long, intense points. Although it could have gone either way, we still played to the best we could.
By the third match, fatigue began to show, and we were up against McKinnon, the strongest in our pool. Their coordination, power, and consistency made it difficult for us to gain momentum.
Despite our efforts to stay competitive, ultimately, they proved too strong. It was a challenging end to the day, but also a valuable learning experience for the team. Thank you to Mr. Rule for taking and coaching us!

Casey North Division soccer tournament
On Tuesday 5 May, the inter and senior girls went to compete in the Casey North Division soccer tournament.
The girls participated in games against many schools, including Fountain Gate, Doveton, Gleneagles and Berwick. To the Senior girls’ pleasant surprise, they had automatically progressed to the Grand Finals! Unfortunately, we lost 3-0 to Gleneagles, but the match was a great learning experience and team-bonding opportunity for the senior team. We also played two friendly competitions with the Doveton inters team and Gleneagles inter team. Overall, we had a fun time.
Much like the senior team, the intermediates found that it a wonderful opportunity to develop some new skills, bond with their peers and have lots of fun. They played five games throughout the day with the team showing up better and better as the day progressed. They won a game against Doveton 2-0 which was a wonderful start to our day and gave all the girls tons of energy to take along for the rest of the day. They also managed to score some amazing goals against some very skilled teams and also had a determined bunch of players who played hard for every second. Lyla Brown skilfully scored a hat trick against Berwick College and helped the girls close the gap in the scores to 5-3.
However, they didn’t manage to progress but nonetheless all of us had an amazing day and would like to thank Marjorie Hau and Upraj Gill for coaching us throughout the day, we couldn’t have played this well without their wonderful guidance.

AFL / Football
On Monday 11 May, the intermediate boys team competed against other schools at J & P Cam Reserve.
Nossal were going in as the severe underdogs, as we hadn’t won a match in over 10 years. The first game was against Timbarra, and although playing our first game with high intensity, we fell short losing by only 3 goals. Despite, our first loss for the day, Nossal bounced back and beat Gleneagles 38-15 in an impressive win. This meant so much for us, as it was our first win in over 10 years.
The final two matches Nossal faced extremely strong sides in Hallam Secondary College and Berwick College. Despite the tough results of 14–91 and 7–106, the team continued to put in maximum effort until the final siren and supported each other throughout every game.
Overall, the tournament was a valuable and proud experience for the team.

Casey North Senior Boys Soccer
On Thursday 14 May we went to Casey Fields to play against both Berwick College and Gleneagles A and B team for senior boys’ soccer. In the first game against Glen Eagles A we had a tough loss but great composure in the second half, losing 5-1 (Goalscorers: Neil Meyer). Second game against Gleneagles B team, we saw it through with an amazing 4-2 win (Goalscorers: Virun Nelumdeniya X 2, Johnathan Kim, Neil Meyer).
In our last game we played against Berwick College, it was a hard game with a couple of our players carrying fatigue and small injuries, in the end we lost 4-1 but worked as hard as we could to play some good football (Goalscorers: Neil Meyer). Overall, it was a very fun experience playing against some good teams, we worked together really well, didn’t complain or drop our heads, tried our best playing some really good football (especially the keepers Trevin Tirikawala and Do Long Van Hoang). In the end it was a fun day and hopefully next year we can try to win more than one game.
