Northern Schools Prime Lamb Competition

Tuesday 5 May, some of our Ag Show Team students attended the Northern Schools Prime Lamb Competition in Armidale. Although we did not take sheep this year, students had the opportunity to participate in junior judging, where Year 7 student Luke Ford received a Highly Commended award. 

Students also took part in a range of workshops throughout the day, including sheep handling, eID for sheep with Local Land Services, livestock photography and meat science.

The students had a great day, learning new skills and gaining valuable industry knowledge.

Thank you to Armidale Secondary College for hosting the event and to Mr Tann for driving the bus.

University of Sydney's Kickstart HSC Workshops 

Wednesday 8 May, our Year 12 Chemistry and Physics students travelled to Narrabri to participate in the University of Sydney Kickstart HSC Workshops at the IA Watson Grain Research Station.

The workshops provided students with the opportunity to explore key HSC topics and participate in practical experiments using equipment and facilities not normally accessible in schools.

Chemistry students explored spectroscopy techniques including UV-Vis, NMR and AAS, as well as gel spherification and laboratory skills using pipettes and burettes.

Physics students focused on Electromagnetism and The Nature of Light, investigating polarisation, spectral emissions and the double slit experiment.

A big thank you to Mr Tann and Mrs Lansdowne for taking the students and supporting them throughout the day.

Titration

Friday 24 April, our Year 12 Chemistry students put their analytical skills to the test during a full day of titrations. 

They worked to accurately determine the concentrations of two unknown acids and bases, applying both their knowledge and practical skills in a real-world context.

It was fantastic to see such strong results, with all students achieving accuracy within 5% of the actual values, an outstanding effort.
