Student Voice - Heights Campus

The SLC students from Heights and Springvale Campus had an amazing opportunity in Week 2 where they caught the train into the city to go to the Melbourne Museum. It was an amazing experience to see all the history and artefacts the museum has to offer. We also engaged in some learning about Indigenous culture and we located a photo of the Lovett family, who have connections with Mrs Cottier’s family. The SLC students also got to watch an I-Max movie that was all about Australia. We are sure that everyone learnt something new that day and most importantly, had a great day with their peers and teachers!

On Monday the 11th of May Springvale Rise Primary School had our whole school Cross Country! FLC and JLC ran our school oval and were guided by our school leaders and senior students. Meanwhile MLC and SLC walked down to Warner Reserve to run their races there. It was amazing to see the determination and resilience of all the students while they were running. Congratulations to everyone on an amazing result!

Anzac Day was celebrated on Saturday the 25th of April. Due to this being on a weekend, our school came together on Friday the 23rd of April to pay our respects to the soldiers who fought by having 1 minute of silence while the Last Post was played. The Vice Captains went around to all the classes on Heights Campus to sell Anzac Badges for $2.00. We raised an outstanding amount of $90.00. We would like to thank our school for supporting and joining in this Anzac service, great job Springvale Rise!

Last week both Heights Campus and Springvale Campus went to Springvale Town Hall to watch the production Hercules. The show taught us to be brave and to not give up. It was amazing seeing all of the actors' talents and how much they made us laugh! We enjoyed the performance and we are all excited to see what the next one could be.

On the same day as our production, we were very lucky to have an ice cream truck come to our campus! We had the option of plain vanilla ice cream with and without sprinkles. We had a nice sunny day so the ice cream went down a treat! Thank you to Mrs Cottier and our School Council for providing us with this amazing treat.

We were also given an amazing opportunity that had two Leaders from Heights and Springvale Campus take part in a Community Grant Program that started when they were in Grade 5.  The students worked with Mission Australia to learn how to apply for a grant to get money for a specific purpose. They investigated what the community might want or need and then applied for that grant. Our school was lucky enough to get one of the grants which was for Kelly Sports to attend Playgroups on both campuses to encourage parents and families to be active and play sports outside. Due to this program we had more dads attend playgroups which was also a BIG positive.

Upcoming events

This Friday we will be having a special assembly for all our amazing Education Support Staff at our school. They go above and beyond everyday to help students and teachers be and do their best and we couldn’t be more thankful to have each and every one of them at our school. Thank you to all the ES staff for all you do!

On the 3rd - 5th of June the SLC students will be attending their SLC camp at Golden Valley Camp Resort on the Mornington Peninsula. All students are very excited for all the fun, activities and food! We can't wait to start packing and experiencing the excitement.

For Term 1 and 2, the SLC students have been learning all about Banqer. Banqer is an educational website just like a bank that teaches them about savings, income, taxes and term deposits. Next week, we have an incursion called ‘The Launch’ which will teach us more economics and business and real life situations! We are very excited for the incursion!

National Sorry Day is also coming up - it is an annual Australian day of commemoration for the Stolen Generation. In 2009 the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, apologized to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for all they went through in this time.

Reconciliation Week is a time where all Australians can learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements. In our classroom we will be doing learning around this and will be holding a special assembly in Week 6.
