VCE Assessments

Upholding Integrity in VCE Assessments

School Assessed Coursework (SACs) and other VCE assessments are an important part of measuring student achievement and preparing for final examinations. To ensure all assessments are fair and meet Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) requirements, Year 11 and 12 VCE students must follow all assessment rules.

Key Expectations During VCE Assessments

Students are reminded that during SACs and formal assessments including exams:

  • No electronic devices are permitted in the room, including mobile phones and smart watches. Possession of these items may result in a score of zero

  • Only materials approved by the subject teacher may be brought into the room

  • Desks must contain only the SAC/exam paper, stationery, approved materials and a water bottle

  • Pencil cases are not permitted

  • Students must not communicate with others during the assessment

  • Students must not cheat or assist others to gain an unfair advantage

  • Toilet breaks will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances

  • Students may not leave the room in the first 30 minutes or final 20 minutes of writing time

  • Students must remain for the full duration of the assessment unless completing an approved rescheduled assessment.

Consequences of Rule Breaches

Any suspected breach will be investigated and may result in one or more of the following:

  • Verbal or written warning

  • Detention or suspension

  • Refusal to assess part or all of the work

  • A score of zero for the assessment

  • An N for the outcome.

We encourage families to discuss these expectations with students and help them prepare appropriately for assessments. Simple steps such as checking for phones or watches, organising approved materials and arriving prepared can prevent unnecessary issues.
