Changes to the NDIS – What Families Need to Know

There continue to be changes occurring within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and many families are understandably feeling unsure about what these changes may mean for their child and supports. As these updates roll out, it is important for families to stay informed and seek support when needed.

Some of the recent changes include:

  • Increased focus on whether supports are considered “reasonable and necessary”
  • Greater scrutiny around therapy recommendations and reports
  • Changes to how plans are reviewed and funded
  • New processes for reassessments and change of circumstance requests
  • A stronger emphasis on evidence and functional impact when requesting supports

For families of children and young people with disability, gathering current evidence and reports is becoming increasingly important. Helpful evidence can include:

  • School reports and learning assessments
  • Allied health reports
  • Behaviour support documentation
  • Carer impact statements
  • Medical specialist letters
  • Information outlining the impact of disability on daily living and community access

Families are encouraged to ask questions and seek guidance early, particularly when preparing for a plan reassessment, transition from school, or requesting additional supports.

As always, our school team is committed to supporting students and families to navigate these systems and connect with appropriate services and information.
