5-6 Class

(Ms Murphy)

What are we doing in literacy? In Literacy, we have begun studying The Dirrarn, the sequel to Black Cockatoo. Mia has moved from the Kimberley to Perth to attend boarding school. She is finding it difficult being away from her home, family, and Country, and often feels disconnected and lonely in her new environment. Mia’s friend Naya has been supporting her through these challenges, while a girl named Charlotte has begun bullying them at school. The story explores themes of friendship, identity, belonging, and the struggles of adjusting to a completely different way of life.

What are we doing in Maths?

In Mathematics, we have been learning a range of strategies to solve division problems. We have been using fact families and factors to help us rnumber patterns simplify problems. We have also been practising the use of the bracket method to solve division problems step-by-step and explain our mathematical thinking clearly.

We hope all Mothers, Grandmothers, and the special women in our students lives had a wonderful Mothers Day.
